Steelers extend D.C. dominance

Washington Redskins v Pittsburgh Steelers Getty Images

The Redskins haven’t beaten the Steelers in 20 years.  They’ll have to wait another four to break the streak.

In throwback jerseys that inducted equal parts vertigo and nausea, the Steelers trounced RG3 and company, 27-12.

Ben Roethlisberger completed 24 of 33 passes for 222 yards and three touchdowns to lead the way.  And tailback Jonathan Dwyer could be Wally Pipping the other guys ahead of him on the depth chart, with his second straight 100-yard game.  He finished with 107 yards on 17 carries.

The loss drops the Redskins to 3-5, narrowing their window of opportunity to stealing a wild-card berth.  Especially with five division games in their final eight.

The Steelers have improved to 4-3, putting them only a game behind the Ravens.  The two teams will play twice in three weeks, starting in three weeks.  Those two games will go a long way toward deciding the division.

As they always seem to do.

Our Defensive Unit and WR Group have no business collecting a paycheck for this game. It’s completely unfair to Robert Griffin and Alfred Morris to play their hearts out only for the others to completely screw it all up for the second week in a row. The Giants and Steelers are awful football teams who just happen to be tremendously lucky. Rest assured, the Super Bowl champion this year won’t be either of those teams. It’s funny how Steeler fans want to act they have a good fanbase, yet the stadium was 50% empty…complete bandwagon fans. This sport is so cruel in that a team like the Redskins should be at minimum 6-2 under RGIII’s savvy play…but alas, this is how it is. 8 games left, we’ll bounce back and still make the playoffs. The rest of the league can forget about it once we finally fine-tune the weak links of this team. Have faith RedskinNation. Hail.

PS : Release DeAngelo Hall and fire Jim Haslett. Please. Two simpletons who have no business in professional football in 2012.

If the steelers are such an awful team. Then what does that say about your dead skins? HUMMMMM

  3. koenig61 says: Oct 28, 2012 4:28 PM

This is the way football was meant to be on defense. You hit a receiver hard, so the next time the ball comes his way he hears footsteps. As for all the dropped passes at least 4 were caught then dislodged by a steeler players hit.

  4. jja80 says: Oct 28, 2012 4:31 PM

Steelers are an awful team & lucky? lol there offense what up and down the field with ease. And take away RGlll’s legs like the Steelers did and he’s a mediocre QB. Even if the Skins can find some WRs who could catch the Redskins will still be nothing more than a runnerup in this league.

  5. joewilliesshnoz says: Oct 28, 2012 4:34 PM

Dan Snyder and the management team he built, are a joke

  6. steelersownyou says: Oct 28, 2012 4:45 PM

Totally false logicalvoice. If you knew anything about heinz field you would know there are 2 huge pavillions where people go to stand under. It was packed under there with thousands of fans. I was there. Take your loss like a man. Chump!

  7. steelersownyou says: Oct 28, 2012 4:47 PM

And after that luscious steeler win. Ravenator promptly dropped a deuce in his panties!!!

  8. rtant2013 says: Oct 28, 2012 4:58 PM

Take away his legs and he’s a mediocre qb? Your joking right? Or did you not watch the game? RG3 was putting passes right into receivers hands and they dropped 11 passes. If it weren’t for that RG3 would have had a good game. I really wonder what D hall said to that ref though haha you could lip read acouple of mfers in there. Skins will be back, was a rough game but can’t blame RG3 at all

  9. charlies1batch says: Oct 28, 2012 4:59 PM

Stop whining and take the loss like a man. You got outclassed in all facets

  10. steelers4385 says: Oct 28, 2012 5:02 PM

Agree with jja. Rg3 is mediocre without his running ability. That first post guy is a scrub. You know nothing about football your defense sucks.

  11. holeinone09 says: Oct 28, 2012 5:03 PM

Great win! Only 1 game behind the Ravens who are entering a big swoon.

What will the Ben haters bobzilla and citizenstrange say now? “Mea culpa”?

What will ravenator say now after so many incorrect predictions? “Ooops”?

  12. pgh15212 says: Oct 28, 2012 5:07 PM

The redskins looked like they feared the steelers. How embarrassing.

  13. S.Nevada says: Oct 28, 2012 5:12 PM

Can’t wait until RG3 has real talent around him and a Defense that ranks in the top 20 (low expectations, I know)

  14. melikefootball says: Oct 28, 2012 5:13 PM

Was a great defensive call by the Steelers. They knew they could not run down RG3 and only relly went after him a few times. They made the Redskins earn the yard and fieldgoals only. Lot said about dropped passes , well they seemed to be getting hit for most of those or descent coverage. when that is your excuse you are grasping for straws.

  15. ravenator says: Oct 28, 2012 5:20 PM

Steelersownyou you’ve never taken a loss like a man, you’re a child. Last time I checked ravens are still in firt place. I’m glad though that I live “rent free” in your tiny little head

  16. dontstabmeray says: Oct 28, 2012 5:31 PM

Steelers will take control of this division easily. Ravens are toast. Ravenator will spend the whole night trying to figure out why he is wrong about everything, but won’t have the mental capacity to understand it.

  17. kilo0986 says: Oct 28, 2012 5:37 PM

Good win. Defense has to play better though, if half the passes that were dropped would’ve been caught this would’ve been a very different game.

  18. thereisalwaysnextyear says: Oct 28, 2012 5:39 PM

It looked like the official told D Hall to take it easy after a tough play because the game was over. D Hall took off his helmet and pointed to the clock (i.e. there was still time on the clock), but that doesn’t excuse D Hall for losing his cool. He’s an overrated idiot. He made the pro bowl last year, but allowed the most yards of any DB! How in the heck does that happen? Oh yeh, ONE great game with 5 picks and a bunch of trash talk.

  19. blu4l1fe says: Oct 28, 2012 5:48 PM

Almost fogot, thanks for the predictions as wel. Let me see if I get it right, the Skins will make the playoffs but the SB Champs will DEFINITELY not be either the Giants or the Steelers.

Whoa, I better put some money on that, sounds like a real good bet… NOT.

Dude, you either must be an old man or something, don’t you remember the last time people bet against the Giants?

You know what, whatever it is you smokin over there in DC, send me some coz it must be some good stuff for you to be hallucinating like this….

  20. steelersownyou says: Oct 28, 2012 5:53 PM

Haha youll never be rent free in my head retardanator. After we mop your sorry team twice in 3 weeks. Nov 18 and dec 2. You will be nowhere to be found on pft. All curled up on your floor in your section 8 apartment in baltimore.

  21. pravin68 says: Oct 28, 2012 6:02 PM

RG3 was impressive, but had little to work with. Ben and Eli next week. Cant believe NFL couldnt forsee this matchup as a SNF type matchyp next week. How could you not have Giants Steelers as SNF?

    ===========================

Son, blind AND dumb is no way to go through life. Better check Ben’s stats — unless Griffin and Morris play defense, no way your team was going to win with that kind of dominating performance. With all the RGIII hype going out, Ben quietly showed up and then showed who the true franchise QB is. Maybe that’s what your guy Griffin will become some day, but not this day. Ben Roethlisberger is simply a cut above.

Oh and add Dwyer putting up 100+ on your defense and it was just a spanking. That “red skin” is the shine on your butts after that one. Now I understand whining last week with the Giants getting a bit fortunate, but not this week. It was just the Steelers lining it up and shoving it down your throat.

  23. sixlombardisinyourface says: Oct 28, 2012 6:11 PM

Keep sayin the Steeler Defense is old and slow. Robert Griffin a world class hurdler with blazing speed and agility – and he was stomped by an allegedly old and slow defense. Why did the Redskins WR’s drop all those passes ? Maybe they heard old and slow footsteps coming up behind them !!!

  24. neverwave says: Oct 28, 2012 6:24 PM

That right Steelers! One step closer to the top of afcn. Keep up the pace. With the way the ravens have been playing…
Defiantly well within reach. Go Steelers!

    right and right.
most dropped passes by a team this season.
    this one wasn’t on RG3.

As bad as those jerseys are – it’s the socks that are the worst. Combine them with the jerseys – and someone needs to lose their job.

  28. jimmylions says: Oct 28, 2012 8:38 PM

  29. fuzzynuts55 says: Oct 28, 2012 8:47 PM

Suddenly, the team that looked sluggish during early losses to Oakland and Tennessee appears to be its normal, dangerous self in a wide-open AFC.

  31. nyg4life says: Oct 28, 2012 9:46 PM

  32. mcarey032 says: Oct 28, 2012 9:52 PM

Congrats to the steelers. They earned the win today, however bragging about how Ben roetosberger played well against this defense is nothing to hang his hat on. Our defense made Andy dalton look like an MVP candidate. The steelers knew that our pass defense was terrible and went to work.

Our offense has to week in and week out score, but chew up time so the defense isn’t out there to screw it up.

Was impressed with Jonathan Dwyer as he ran against a normally stout run defense. To some of the steelers fans out there wouldn’t be bragging about class as the punt return that was run back and the guy was running backwards taunting defenders and all the late shoving that was going on just speaks of class to me. Still hats off to the steelers, they played a great game and they will probably make the playoffs like they always do.

  33. Deb says: Oct 28, 2012 10:03 PM

Something weird happened to me during today’s game. I started liking the throwback uniforms. Not sure if it was the uniforms themselves or the fact that Mike Wallace managed to catch the balls thrown to him, and the defense looked like the defense of old (though not the defense of 2-10 1934 team, thank goodness). Maybe there was a method to Mr. Rooney’s madness in selecting this style after all.

  34. xofootballer says: Oct 28, 2012 10:05 PM

but – what about the greatest player of all time?
    RG3?!
    He didn’t save the day?!!!
Poor RG3 – suffering the same fate as Cam Newton last year.
So many over-reacting and anointing him God status. He’ll never live up to the hype.
and won’t even make the playoffs. His team is a woeful 3-5 alone in LAST PLACE in the NFC East.
Meanwhile Andrew Luck is doing a lot more with a lot less.

  35. steelcurtainn says: Oct 28, 2012 11:09 PM

The sounds of bitterness are everywhere. Sorry haters, the steelers arent going nowhere like you predict year after year. Not with Big Ben running the helm.

  36. bigbadal21 says: Oct 29, 2012 12:11 AM

Steeler fan here. I give props to RG3. He is the real deal. Once they get a few wrs to give him some help they will be a hard team to contain. Since I knew a certain dickhead would not be around after the game I saved his post. rg3andthensome says:Oct 25, 2012 6:36 PM
He should get what he wants…Give him the beer…I’m sure he would even drink it with the fans after we demolish Steeltown. Go Skins

I hope you enjoyed the game Mr.and then some

  37. sudz28 says: Oct 29, 2012 6:16 AM

Steeler fan here too, and I agree bigbad21 – RG3 is the real deal. He looked great, but there’s only so much he can do himself. I couldn’t believe all the dropped passes, the bad weather definitely worked in favor of our defense! I was really thinking the ‘Skins would come in and steal one from us at home, but happy to see we finally rose to the occasion.
Hats off to RG3 and most of the rest of the Redskins for a good game. DeAngelo Hall, feel free to grow up any time now you worthless piece of garbage.

  38. blu4l1fe says: Oct 29, 2012 9:07 AM

No question Griffin is showing a lot of promise but as with all QBs coming into the league, he has to improve his skills to succeed. Yes, he’s a very mobile QB but while mastering his running ability, he also needs to improve his pocket presence, his passing and his rythm with his recievers.

Without all of this and just being able to run, he won’t turn out to be nothing but another Vick.

    RG 3 and out!!!

  39. blackngold4life says: Oct 29, 2012 3:06 PM

Good game..I’m lookin at On-line and D-line play, its gettin better on both side over the last 3 weeks. When the Steelers run the ball and create pressure on defense its hard to stop um..Lewis, Taylor, Clark, and Will Allen have been holding their own without Troy..in my honest opinion were lookin Much better then the Ravens at this point injuries and all. If they lost Ray Rice they would be DONE!! 9 GAMES left, lets see what happens.

    _______
I don’t think anybody is using dropped passes as an excuse for why the Redskins lost that game (hulkhogan/voiceofreason/logicaldeebag/whatever his name is does not count, as he is clearly a Dallas fan doing a really amazing job making every other fanbase in the NFL hate Robert Griffin and the Redskins). The Steelers played a great football on both sides of the ball and the Redskins were beaten soundly in every facet of the game. Even if there hadn’t been eleven drops, the most in any NFL game since the 1990′s, the final score would have been close at best.

The only conclusion that can be drawn from the dropped passes is that Griffin is the real deal. Every one of his passes was exactly where it needed to be, and whether it was jarred out by a hit, or the receiver just came down with a sudden case of stone hands, Griffin did everything he could possibly do as an NFL quarterback to win that game.

  41. skinsdiehard says: Oct 29, 2012 6:52 PM

Why is there this celebratory tone to Florio’s article that the Steelers beat RG3 and company? I heard on a few post-game shows that Roethlisberger showed the rookie up or told him “not so fast”. How is Griffin supposed to play? Play not to win to show respect to veteran QB’s? Roll over? I dont understand their point. There is no other way for him to play. He’s not going against the opposing QB. There’s nothing personal. Just strange commentary in my opinion. Why hoping for RG3 to fail? I dont get it.

  42. antibenapalooza says: Oct 29, 2012 7:09 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers management chose to keep Rottenberger, so I chose to become (after being a lifelong Steelers fan) an Atlanta Falcons fan. The Falcons are undefeated so far this season. The Steelers deserve what they get, no shot at the Super Bow again this season.

  43. steelersfanfromtheseventies says: Oct 29, 2012 8:02 PM

I agree with skinsdiehard. This whole thing of QB vs QB is a joke. The last time i looked football is still the ultimate team sport.

  44. juststeel says: Oct 29, 2012 10:05 PM

Pre-game hype, Steelers have no chance against such a great athlete as RG3. The Steelers are Superbowl bound again. Do not underestimate the Black and Gold
