Dolphins defensive end Olivier Vernon won AFC special teams player of the week honors for getting his hands in the air, and Packers cornerback Davon House won the NFC version for making a similar play.
Vernon blocked a field goal attempt, and also recovered a blocked punt for a touchdown in the Dolphins 30-9 win over the Jets. He helped the Dolphins become the first team in 20 years to block a field goal, a punt and recover an onside kick in the same game.
House actually blocked the punt that teammate Dezman Moses recovered for a touchdown in the Packers’ win over the Jaguars, overcoming the fact the Packers had just 10 men on the field.
It was the Packers’ first blocked punt since 2003.
