Vick keeps hold of starting job, for now

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Vick spins away from Atlanta Falcons defender Weatherspoon during the fourth quarter of their NFL football game in Philadelphia Reuters

According to multiple reports, Eagles coach Andy Reid has decided to stick with Michael Vick as their starting quarterback.

For now.

The Eagles have today off, and won’t practice until Thursday in advance of Monday’s game against the Saints.

It is reasonable to assume this is Vick’s last chance, an opportunity to play against the league’s worst defense, to try to restore a little confidence and sanity to a confusing situation, that has spawned reports in every direction this week.

If he blows this chance, Andy Reid will have almost no choice to to start rookie Nick Foles, but the impact of that choice on the future of so many has likely caused him to proceed slowly.

Hasn’t the same article ran 3 separate times already?

If Reid were confident that he had his job next year no matter what the team’s final record, wouldn’t he start to assess and develop Foles? I think so. This move says to me that Reid feels the pressure to win, and the veteran QB gives him the better chance to do so. Right?

Is this ground hog’s day or something?

It’s like deja vu all over again!

So you’re saying Vick remains the starter in Philly, for now?

This is horrible. As an Eagles fan, Foles was really my sole interest in watching Monday night. We know Vick hasn’t progressed in 2 years, what’s left to see? I guess Reid is trying to save his job.

Eagles are getting exactly what they deserve for signing this turd.

Glad they are all circling the bowl together.

Reid is one of the NFL’s best coaches, but he is getting stale in Philly. He needs to be fired, take a year off, and he will be successful at the lucky team that gets him next.

Vick receives $13.9 million this year
King Dunlap, Evan Mathis, Dennis Kelly, Dallas Reynolds and Todd Herremans make $7.76 million combined.

Vick needs to buy more time only because he can afford it.

Of course the Eagles have no need for practice today, they’re looking good as is.

The Eagles will finish the season 12-4 and will dominate the post season and win Super Bowl 47.

The Eagles are starting to appear as a joke.
what a shame. A once proud franchise is now a Reality show.
Another year and no Lombardi trophy.
    Its a dang shame !

Yes, no new news here. Vick will start until all hope is lost.

How about this being Reid’s last chance too instead of just Vick’s? If he can’t outcoach the Saint’s backup staff then he should follow Vick right out the door.

Vick has entirely too many weapons to be so insufficient as a starting QB in the NFL. I see receivers open all day long.

Unfortunately, he has no clue where the safeties will be. He has no idea where the blitzes are coming from. He is easy to confuse. He has never been able to read defenses well. Its time to get someone in that can.

This season is already a wash, and thats depressing, considering the amount of talent on this team.

  16. eagleswin says: Oct 31, 2012 10:16 AM

The season is now pretty much a forgone conclusion. Vick is almost guaranteed a decent day against the saints which will be enough of a reason for Reid not to stick with him for the rest of the year. The eagles will fail to make the playoffs even though they have a strong run to finish the year.

After the superbowl they will dump Vick, Foles won’t have any live game experience. They will sign an experienced QB to push him. We’ll end up with a Kolb/Vick scenerio again next year with Foles having even less game experience than Kolb did when he had the starting job.

The Dog Lover shouldn’t even be in the NFL.

Reid is like an old carton of milk in the fridge. He should have been thrown out a long time ago. Now it’s just a big unpleasant mess in the fridge.

The Eagles have too much talent?

This is what happens when you draft and/or trade for flashy skill players. If you neglect the guys in the trenches, you will not win. They’re not sexy, but all the wide receivers, running backs, linebackers, corners, and a qb may not be enough.

    Get an offensive line, Philly!!!
