It usually seems to take about half a year for any new player to get comfortable in the system and really start understanding where and what they are supposed to be doing on any given play.

So, by the playoffs he should be fitting in well and hopefully playing up to his hype instead of down to his off the field issues.

Bucs dump a trouble maker who has been inconsistent and had his share of off the field problems and the Pats get some secondary help that they need.

I know there’s a lot of you out there who aren’t too fond of him, but – get used to it – we Pats’ fans love him and you can bet he couldn’t care less about your opinion of him.

Because Pat Chung and Steve Gregory have been injured, so the next in line are Tavon Wilson and Nate Ebner, both rookies. McCourty has not flashed like his rookie year with all those INT’s, but he’s done a solid job. Yes, he’s had some mistakes, but he’s been reliable. It has more to do with the fact that he has experience at safety from the end of last season.

Potentially awesome for New England: Even if he never became the shutdown corner he was billed as in the draft, Talib is a good player and a huge upgrade at New England’s biggest position of need. Unlike Ocho or Haynesworth, he is only 26 and in the last year of his rookie deal. If he plays well for the high profile Patriots, he will make himself a nice pile of money in free agency somewhere. If he doesn’t, he might be out of chances in the league. He has every reason to be a good soldier for a few months, which is all the Pats need for this trade to be worth it.

Only to the pink hats. He’s actually top 10 in the league in pass deflections this year. People are getting wrapped up in a few glaring mistakes he’s made, but in reality he’s been solid. Not elite, but much better than last year, especially in man coverage.

If he can help that awful secondary go on a deep playoff run then the draft pick and the potential to not re-sign him will be worth a fourth.

Huh? “Own up”? Pretty much everyone has been calling him a bust since his return to IR. There were also some people calling him a bust last year already.

Rich get richer… Only the Pats can pull of moves like this.. Some work (Dillon and Harrison) and some don’t (Haynesworth and Ocho Cinco).. In the end, the Patriots will always be successful with Belichick and Brady.. All they need is players to mold into their way of thinking.. The rest is history.. We are always Super Bowl contenders.. Not just playoff contenders..

Are the Patriots better off with Talib or the fourth round pick?

Hardly! Fourth round picks have produced many good players. If Talib bombs (quite likely) Belichick will wish he had that pick back.

This is coming from a Manning fan (in case the name isn’t obvious). I may not like Bill, but he’s certainly good at whipping trouble makers into shape.

You may not be aware of this, but “good” is a huge upgrade from everyone except McCourty on the Pats.

I’ll risk a 4th round pick for a good corner any day. What do you have to lose?

Ochocinco and Haynesworth didn’t work out, but I guess people forgot about knuckleheads like Randy Moss and Corey Dillon.
