For 49ers outside linebacker Aldon Smith, it’s just another day at the office.
Smith took to Twitter to deny a report that he was “jumped” outside a Missouri restaurant, just the latest in a long line of odd stories surrounding the talented pass-rusher.
Ashley Zavala of KOMU-TV in Columbia, Mo, posted that Smith “was jumped last night near El Rancho restaurant in CoMo. I’ve been told that he’s okay.”
She later followed up that Columbia police reported a “disturbance” outside the same restaurant, but didn’t include names in the report.
Smith later replied in a pair of Twitter messages of his own, saying: “Want to clear up rumors of me getting jumped, I’m ok and doing well! Como! I missed you. Go Tigers!!” and then “Didn’t get jumped_ stop asking.”
According to Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle, an employee of the restaurant “said she was aware of an incident involving Smith, but declined to provide more details.”
A 49ers spokesman said they had been in contact with Smith and that there “is no substance to the rumors that he was jumped.”
Smith has escaped serious harm in a number of off-field incidents, including a DUI arrest in Miami Beach, a “minor stab wound” at a party at his home, and a few stitches when a car he was passenger in flipped after swerving to avoid a deer, leaving the driver with a serious back injury.
