Calvin Johnson expected to play despite missing practice all week

The Lions are concerned enough about receiver Calvin Johnson’s sore knee that they’ve held him out of practice all week, but Johnson is expected to play through it on Sunday in Jacksonville.

That’s the main thing, just being ready for Sunday,” Johnson said, via the team’s website. “I have to be out there to help these guys out.”

Johnson has regularly been given time off to rest, but this is the first time he’s missed an entire week of practice, which suggests that his knee pain could be getting worse. Johnson is seventh in the league with 638 receiving yards, but his production is down across the board this season from a year ago, and he has scored just one touchdown.

As the Lions continue to deal with injuries in their secondary, safeties Louis Delmas (knee) and Amari Spievey (concussion) also missed all three practices this week. Defensive end Cliff Avril (back) practiced today after missing the last two days.
