MLive continues to speculate that the only reason Best was on the roster this year was to accumulate another year as a “player” to enhance his retirement benefits package.

I don’t know for sure, but it sounds like by keeping him on the roster an extra year, the Lions ensured Best will continue to have medical coverage long after he and the team part ways.

Bottom line – the business took care of this kid. Thumbs up to Bill Ford Jr.

Javid Best is in tough shape. He can’t spell Best.
I call him Javid Bust because he had his bell rung in college so many times no one but the Lions drafted him.
This poor guy needs to retire and cash in on his NFL retirement. Sorry Javid, but your days are over.

It may be time to hang it up.. a yr later and still no return.. that’s substantial and if the kid is showing signs of permanrnt damge which is most like the case he should hang em up and take his guranteed money and invest in a mcdonalds..not in detroit

Very sad. i feel for. him the offense could be great with him involved, he was so exciting to watch, he is like a faster sproles. very sad but he has to do what the docs say nobody want’s to put there name on that. what i love about him the most is his suprising blocking skills

I’d like to hear what the Lions do now. Is he going to be paid his contract? Can the Lions just cut him? An injury settlement? If he is released, can Best go to another team and try to get cleared to play? What Doctors haven’t cleared him? The Lions doctors? His own? The NFL’s? Are their second opinions to be had from other teams?

Let the guy play already! With all that players currently know about concussions and the dangers surrounding them, if they want to still play, let them sign a waiver and get to it.

It’s been a year without clearance. The generous Mr. William Clay Ford has kindly kept Best arround to ensure his player pension. Best’s career is over whether formally announced or not. Too bad. Kid could run. Wish him well.

No one on the team has shown more dedication or worked harder than he has?

So does that mean everybody else is perfect with regard to their effort as he is, or are they all lesser?

If they are the same then how could we possibly lose 4 games already with the talent on this roster and everybody giving absolutely everything they have?

The only other explanation is that he is providing a weak effort and the rest of the team is also weak or even lesser than that, or the losses are because of the coaches/mngmt not being good enough and the players deserve little to no blame for the losses, which is my suggestion of what is happening this year.

Anyhow good luck and good health to Best, keep working hard and hopefully you will be able to continue your dream next year!
