Heath Evans would take Alabama or Oregon plus the points

This week’s most unusual story line emerged spontaneously and unexpectedly from an interview of South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier by Dan Patrick. Spurrier, as in an effort as Patrick surmised to tweak Alabama coach Nick Saban, said that the Crimson Tide could roll over an NFL team.

The remark sparked a multi-day debate on the topic. But it’s a stretch to actually call it a debate, because no one was willing to take the position that a college team could beat a pro team -- or that a college team could even cover the 24-point spread that was hypothetically installed for a game that would never be anything more than hypothetical.

NFL Network’s Heath Evans, however, would take the points -- for Alabama or another high-profile college football powerhouse.

“I mean, honestly with a 24 point spread, it would be hard to bet against Nick [Saban],” Evans told ESPN 760 in West Palm Beach, Florida. “It really would. I could say that it’d be hard to bet against Oregon too. With Oregon’s offense, if you had a week to game plan for it, guys aren’t in good enough shape to play that offense. Defensively speaking, from an NFL team playing Oregon’s offense, I’d take Oregon at that as well as I’d take Alabama.”
