Eagles defensive tackle Mike Patterson returned to practice nearly two weeks ago. In two days, he apparently will be taking the field.

Coach Andy Reid told reporters on Saturday that Patterson will be elevated to the active roster on Saturday, after offseason brain surgery that corrected a congenital tangle of blood vessels.

“We’ll get it done today,” Reid said. “It’ll be knocked out today one way or another.”

Reid said Patterson is in good shape, but that his snaps will be monitored if he plays.

“He moved around well and there were no symptoms [from the] surgery he had with his head and brain,” Reid said. “He’s felt good. He’s felt good all the way through workouts and then once he came out here he felt good. . . . I think you would probably monitor how many snaps he plays. You’re not going to put him in there and have him go the whole game, which our guys don’t do anyway. Definitely monitor how he’s doing.”

Patterson said he expects to play, but that he won’t be disappointed if he doesn’t.

“We’ll see what happens,” Patterson said. “I don’t have control of actually being out there but if he gives me the go, I’m going to be out there.”

After suffering a seizure during training camp, Patterson played last season with the condition controlled by medication.

Before this season, the eight-year veteran had missed only two games in his career.

UPDATE 3:30 p.m. ET: Patterson has been officially activated. To create a roster spot, the Eagles released linebacker Jason Williams.
