APThe report that Saints coach Sean Payton could/will be a free agent after the 2012 season raises plenty of interesting angles.
Here’s another one.
Quarterback Drew Brees will definitely need an explanation.
Brees signed a long-term deal with the Saints, surely under the impression that Payton will be back. If he’s not, that will be a problem.
And even if Commissioner Roger Goodell doesn’t merit blame for an outcome that would result in Payton leaving, plenty of fans will blame Goodell — especially if Brees vents his frustration by pointing to the entire bounty fiasco as the first domino that resulted in Payton leaving town.
So, yes, things are going to getting very interesting as the end of the season approaches.

Looks like the Saints’ drama could extend to one more offseason.
WOW!! this reminds me of March 2,2012 @ the rate this story is running
You guys are really trying to just stir up trouble that isn’t there. Brees is the highest paid player in the NFL. He shouldn’t have a problem playing for the Saints regardless of the coach.
Lure Cowher back as head coach. Then hire Norv Turner after he’s canned. He can’t coach a team, but he can coach an offense. Anything less than this combo in New Orleans would send us back to the dark ages (pre katrina era).
Does anyone really care one way or the other?
Bunjy96, apparently you do. Lol
if payton isnt back u blame one guy, payton. goodell is doing his job, the saints cheated, their super bowl is tarnished because they cheated. And payton hasnt done ish without drew brees.
Most of us find the football played on the field to be vastly more interesting than any behind the scenes soap opera’s.
But then again, we’re football fans.
