Harvin, Peterson miss practice for Vikings

AP

On offense, the Vikings have two reliable weapons.  Neither practiced on Thursday.

Via Judd Zulgad of 1500ESPN.com, receiver Percy Harvin missed another day of practice with an ankle that he says was sprained in three places.  It casts real doubt on his ability to play Sunday against the Lions.

Also absent from practice was running back Adrian Peterson, who has an illness.  That said, it’s hard to imagine any illness of any kind or any severity keeping Peterson from playing.

The Vikings follow their game against the Lions with a bye week.  After that, the Viking launch into a season-killing six-pack to conclude the season, with games against the Bears, Packers, Bears, Rams, Texans, and Packers.

Win or lose on Sunday, a season that not long ago had plenty of promise could soon be going up in Colorado/Washington smoke.

  1. I would normally (always) cheer against the Vikings, no matter what. But I am actually beginning to feel sorry for them. With the two players that make up the franchise out and the team clearly an underdog, I will be cheering for a Lions loss.

Bring it on! Vikes gonna go 5-2 the last 7 games and make the playoffs at 10-6. After that anything can happen.

Actually, going 5-2 in their last 7 games is the very definition of “anything can happen.” You don’t have to wait until the playoffs for it.

  3. ……and with Harvin possibly out it will give Musgrave & Ponder a chance to actually come up with an air assault that does not hinge on only 1 receiver

may be interesting to watch Ponder may actually look for an open receiver instead of just #12

That assumes they are going to either sweep the Bears or the Packers or that they are going to beat the Texans – which is it? I’m dying to hear this reply.

I agree but in all fairness he does try to force the ball to Simpson every so often when he’s double covered. lol

What do you mean? What about Jerome Sim…, John Car…, Devon Aroma…, Kyle Rud…, Michael Jen…, Jerome Fel…, Rhett El.., Jarius Wri…

Yeah, because slightly below average quarterbacks always perform better when their two best offensive weapons aren’t in the game. Lord, just it be over soon please.

Actually, they’re most likely going to have to go 5-1 over their last 6 games. Vikings have definitely done better than everyone thought so far, but that’s the definition of overachieving. They managed to play above themselves for half a season, but that can’t last. Lions have been underachieving but that too is correcting itself. It’s a shame Harvin is likely to miss, when the Lions win skeptics will blame it on Minny not being full strength. Not being hater but in the previous victory their offense was awful with only 212yds/2 FG, and they’ve looked worse lately except for Peterson.

    Lions by 30.

The vikings and their loudmouth customers have disappeared again.

Maybe but blowhard Packers fans and their moronic predictions never disappoint

  10. Wow, why are you Vike fans all so negative? Your team still has a winning record, how could you expect much more than that? I can’t believe you’re all bailing on your squad so quickly. I thought you “bled purple?” Sheesh.

  11. Actually wait, bobby is probably an “owner”. Right Bobby? Or did you just photocopy another persons stock purchase, or maybe you just used word or photoshop to make your own authentic Packer stock certificate.

  12. Only fans with half a brain expected more than 6-7 wins out of this team (an example of 1/2 a brain is demonstrated by the Pack-fan posts above). Peterson hasn’t really practiced on a Thursday the last few weeks so no biggie, but with Harvin likely out, we’re screwed on Sunday.

That about sums it up. Sometimes saying it simple says it best.

  14. I don’t think Ponder is he problem; he’s shown plenty of potential. I think the problem is Simpson or rather Musgrave trying to force Simpson on Ponder. They desperately want a deep threat and appear to want the ball forced his way. They were much better without him while relying on Peterson and the short game, although I’m not sure that Harvin doesn’t mean more to the team as an overall threat. I also believe they are a more well rounded team than some give them credit for.

  15. hey everybody can dog on ponder all they want im not defending him but out wr’s simply cant get open or get any separation which forces him to dump it off or throw it away- the smart choice or act like a 2nd year qb and try to run from the pocket. give him some time and lets get another wr before we pull out our pitchforks.

  16. That means that Pederson will only get 36 carries and Harvin like 20. When they do practice they get 36 and 20.
Ya right like they ain’t playing with the Lions coming to town

  17. (My Jim Mora voice) Playoffs???? Shh…. Don’t talk to me about playoffs….You kid’n me??? Playoffs??? Playoffs??? Shh….I just hope we can win another game!!!!

  18. samantha steele shut up you dont know if that is what he wants harvin will be with us till the end of his contract.

Your love affair with the Vikings continues huh Bob!? Don’t let the packer fans catch you cheating on them!

  20. Not to worry, this is a rebuilding year for the Vikings. Much like their other 52 or so years in the league.

All they need is a franchise QB, O-line and some some shut down corners and they will become a force.

  21. I think bobnelsonjr is right, Lions should win this game by 30. If it wasn’t for the Nascar race on Sunday, I’d come out to cheer the Lions on. We all know they need somebody to buy tickets because nobody in Minnesota will.
