Getty ImagesIn the same week that Barack Obama was re-elected President of the United States, Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has been re-elected to a slightly less prestigious title.
For the second consecutive year, Suh came in first place in a Sporting News poll asking NFL players to name the dirtiest player in the league. Last year the poll reached 111 players and Suh got 36 votes, while this year the poll included 103 players and Suh got 32 votes. So Suh has consistently been named the dirtiest player in the league by a little more than 30 percent of his fellow players.
Suh was followed by Dolphins guard Richie Incognito, who received 19 votes. Last year Incognito came in sixth place in the “dirtiest player” polling, so he’s moving up the rankings, perhaps bolstered by highly publicized comments from the Texans early this season.
Rams cornerback Cortland Finnegan, who aspires to be the dirtiest player in the NFL, will have to settle for third-dirtiest for the second consecutive year: Finnegan came in third place, same as last year, although his vote total increased from eight to 14, so he’s moving in the right direction toward realizing his aspirations of being known as the league’s dirtiest player.
Steelers linebacker James Harrison, who came in second place last year, has fallen to fourth place this year. Harrison hasn’t been 100 percent this season because of a knee injury, so he’s been slowed down in his efforts to deliver brutal hits to opposing quarterbacks.
Titans offensive tackle David Stewart, who like Incognito was accused by the Texans of dirty play, came in fifth place in this year’s voting. Stewart didn’t place in last year’s poll.
The voting was rounded out by Eagles defensive end Jason Babin and Steelers safety Ryan Mundy, who got two votes apiece, and 12 players who each received one vote. All of those players can keep up their dirty play if they want to rise in the rankings next year. But it’ll be tough to top Suh.

Don’t you actually have to play, or at least make some sizable contribution to your team to be named “Dirtiest Player?” I don’t see how Suh would qualify.
When did they stop voting for Rodney Harrison? Rodney was on IR one year and they still voted for him.
Yeah, that 1 penalty this year, which was for encroachment, sure makes Suh dirty. . .
At least he’s consistant.
I don’t need to know who exactly the players are that vote on this but could they at least say in the review whether or not they actually PLAY against Suh? What has he done this year to warrant being a dirty player? That one offsides penalty?
If they had a “NFL’s Ugliest Player” Terrell Suggs would win unanimously.
MUNDY? He doesnt even play!! He sucks!!
How come the team accused of having a bounty system never had a player on this list?
This conversation starts and ends with the fact that EVERY team in the NFL would LOVE this guy on their team. Period.
If it wasn’t for this type of news for Ndonkeykong Sue, he wouldnt have any news at at.
Overrated joke
Have a vote for player you want most to play for your home team Suh would also be voted #1.
You think Suh really cares what anyone thinks?
What i find funny too is I guarantee theres gonna be a ton of you morons talking crap about Suh and the Lions in the comments section, but I bet every one of the trash talkers would love to have Suh on their team!
So talk away.
A man must have goals in life, and drive toward them.
Suh Stomps the competition once again!
That must’ve been one REALLY intense encroachment penalty.
Just like those EXTREMELY felonious minor traffic violations he’s had
Take a shower, Suh!
How about Duane Brown for the cheap shot on DJ Smith a few weeks ago? The way guys are dumped after injury now there is no place for players like that.
How is Jason Babin on this list? He doesn’t hit anybody.
Gerald McCoy > Suh
This makes those in Nebraska very proud ….
@tigers182
Yeah, because a guy sitting on his couch knows better than fellow NFL players about who is dirty and who isn’t. Unreal…
seems they have one of these polls every week
No surprise here. This is the type of guy that will be broke two years after his career is finished.
I’ll have a large fry with that Ndamukong!
Dirty is as dirty does. On and off the field.
The players questioned in the poll must be from Green bay and Chicago.
Dumbest, yes. Dirtiest, not this season.
What is The Sporting News again? I let my subscription lapse 10 years ago and didn’t know it still exists.
No Brandon Browner? After that super cheap shot he put on Greg Jennings earlier this year I’m shocked not to see him on this list.
lol what the haters fail to realize is the people who voted for Suh did so out of fear.
Seriously, I think there are enough polls that every player in the league will be named #1 something.
Next week: who looked best in pink in October?
Surely they mean Ryan Clark and not Ryan Mundy, right?
Sorry but Cortland Finnegan is hands down the dirtiest player I’ve ever watched play the game.
Have a vote for player you want most to play for your home team Suh would also be voted #1.

Yeah, uh, no. Not only is he not even the top defender people would want on their team, he’s not even the top defensive lineman. Keep dreaming, though.

I could name a player for every poaition that I would want on my team before Suh. Suh had one good year in the NFL as a rookie and is only known because of his play outside the rules. He’s very average.
Was Laron Landry on the ballot???
After Babin preaching about how fans are “too vile” at Eagles games and the complete lack of production, I’m surprised he’d even be included in this group
Ryan Mundy on the list destroys all credibility, unless you count whiffs as being dirty.
The results would probably be similar – but why not ask more than 103 players? I’m sure these guys all come from the practice squads too.
Call him what you want………just be sure to still call him a Lion.
Why this guy is STILL playing football is a mistery to me. His football skill sucks. The only time Suh is mentioned is for doing something dirty.
The guys who voted for Mundy are obviously on the Raiders. That hit on Heyward-Bey is clearly what leads them to vote for him because other than that, he doesn’t play too often.
Still surprised Finnigan hasn’t “won”. At least Hines is out of the league.
I love how all you clowns keep saying that Suh isnt good at football. Seriously? Thats the best trash talk you guys can do? Hes won DROY, and has been mentioned numerous times by several Olineman how tough he is to go against. And have any of the actually WATCHED a lions game, let alone Suh play himself? He has to get double teamed almost every play.
Try a new form of trash talk, because your current way is not only inaccurate, but really lame too.
