“What people keep calling a “college offense” is really a misnomer. ”

Nope. Even Shanahan admits RG3 is running much of the Baylor offense. It eventually fails at the NFL level … except in the minds of fanboys.
______
Did you read anything past the first line? It has only "eventually fail[ed] at the NFL level" for the last twenty years or so. Brett Favre, Troy Aikman, Peyton, and Brady, are all in their own way departures from a previous style of NFL play, which was much closer to a so-called"college offense", than the NFL as we know it today.

I'm sure that back in the early 90's, fuglyflorio Sr. was grumbling about how pure passers would eventually fail at the NFL level... "Even Mike Holmgren admits Brett Favre can't run the read-option"

For those who remain unconvinced, Bill Walsh believed a very quick quarterback who could scramble and run read-options was essential for running his west coast system. Clearly, his opinions are irrelevant, however, as we all know Bill Walsh was just another idiot fanboy (whatever that is).

Lets get one thing straight, the Seahawks are a zone/power run based offense. They line up in I formation more than any team in the NFL. But Bevell also has an athletic that runs a 4.55 and it makes sense to use that threat. They started running out of shotgun and keeping the defense off balance of the run threat opening up the short passing game. It's just smart offense to use a dual threat if you have one. Wilson is smart enough to slide and get out of bounds protecting himself from damage.

College offenses get you a quick boost .. but there’s no long term success in them. If your aim is mediocrity then keep running that option stuff. Who knows … maybe every other coach in the NFL is wrong.
_________
What people keep calling a "college offense" is really a misnomer. An offense that involves read-option plays is simply an offense where the quarterback is relatively quick compared to the defense, meaning that it is seen in college more often than it is seen in the NFL, but it is the same offense that Montana and Young ran in San Fran and that Elway ran in Denver. Because pro-level defensive players have been getting faster over time, especially relative to pro-level quarterbacks, there hasn't been a team or player able to perform in an offense like this since Young, but Wilson and Griffin bring an entirely new skillset to the NFL. Just because you haven't seen it for a while doesn't make it a joke or a "gimmick". And even if teams learn how to shut the read-option offense down for Wilson and Griffin, they both exhibit the skills to be very dangerous traditional passers as well.

Basically, whether it's a "gimmick," a pass, or just "traditional, old-school football" (which isn't even that traditional or old-school: Archie Manning, Jim Plunkett, Fran Tarkenton, and Roger Staubach all ran "college offenses" as well), expect these guys to be around for a while.

As I've told other people, the problem with the Redskins is not a coaching problem, it's a personnel problem... They just don't have the talent right now... Their current starting wide receivers (excluding Garcon, who has been out all season) wouldn't start on most teams and I'm not sure anyone in their starting secondary would start on another team (possibly Josh Wilson would)... However, in a couple years, I'll say at least two more seasons, they will have more pieces in place and they will likely develop into an annual playoff team

Not only is he just playing much better, but he looks much more relaxed in the pocket going through his progressions and it shows.

Give Darrell Bevel some credit for calling much better play sequences, too. A lot of us wanted him fired about week 4, and he seems to have noticed it.

And I'll bet Kyle Shanahan is looking at the 'Hawks game film about now, too as it's obvious that RW is outplaying RGIII.

Go Hawks!
