Rodgers-Cromartie: The rest of the NFL thinks the Eagles don’t hit

AP

Eagles cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie says Philadelphia’s defense has a bad reputation around the rest of the NFL.

Everybody looks at us as a pretty defense [and that] guys don’t want to be physical. We’ve got to go up there and make a name for ourselves,” Rodgers-Cromartie told CSNPhilly.com.

Asked if other NFL players have told him that’s what they think, Rodgers-Cromartie said they had.

“Yeah, that’s just around the league, ‘Ya’ll guys are talented but ya’ll don’t want to hit nobody,'” Rodgers-Cromartie said.

Rodgers-Cromartie said the rest of the league views the Eagles’ defense as “Guys with talent but don’t really want to hit nobody.”

Firing defensive coordinator Juan Castillo was supposed to change the problems on the Eagles’ defense, but in the two games since jettisoning Castillo, the Eagles’ defense hasn’t improved at all. Perhaps instead of changing coordinators, what they need is to acquire players who aren’t known for not wanting to hit.

  1. This is kind of funny. I have never heard anyone say that about the Eagles. Maybe this is his childish way of motivating people. Maybe he’s just an idiot.

  2. “Yeah, that’s just around the league, ‘Ya’ll guys are talented but ya’ll don’t want to hit nobody,’” Rodgers-Cromartie said.

How can you tell he’s a Cromartie?

    SMH.

  3. Whoever DRC’s talking to is absolutely right. I am an Eagles fan, and have been appalled at the amount of missed tackles I’ve seen. Basic fundamental football has been forgotten. I think these guys have quit on the head coach.

The eagles D has held the opposing teams either to their season average or below their season average in points the last 2 games. The biggest problem is that the Eagles offense has scored 17 and 13 points the last 2 games. If you take away the Vick pick 6 last week the eagles defense actually held the Saints Offense to 21 points which should be a winnable game.

That said, I agree that you see way to many missed tackles on Defense. The players fought for less contact in practice during the last CBA, this is one of the results of not being able to hit during the week.

Michael David Smith: Your claim about average points is simply not true. The Falcons are averaging 27.5 points a game. They scored 30 against the Eagles. The Saints are averaging 27.25 points a game. They scored 28 points against the Eagles. Furthermore, the two games since firing Juan Castillo are the two games in which the Eagles have allowed the most points this season — the most they had allowed in a game before firing Castillo was 27.

  5. As a Giants fan, I have nothing but respect ( and a little bit of hate..lol ) for the Eagles…I have never thought the Eagles didn’t like being physical..

  6. I don’t know if it’s because it’s early AM, or if you were just trying to hit your quota for article length, but why put three separate quotes from DRC which all say the exact same thing?

Perhaps they should have changed head coach instead of changing coordinators!

Well, that was a desperate move by Reid. He’s next. Maybe bringing Gruden back to Philadelphia would make a difference. But their issues go far beyond coaching.

  8. As an Eagles fan, I concur. This might be one of the softest teams I can remember fielding.

We brought in Mychal Kendricks and Demeco Ryans, and Fletcher Cox, and I expected to see a little more pop than what we are seeing. Our defense looks like they just dont care. I dont remember the last time I saw an Eagles defender really lay the wood on a ball carrier.

Hell, it may have been Dawkins. Its been that long. Especially since our safeties right now are terrible, and are always 5 yards behind the play they should be in on.

Hell…bring Dawkins out of retirement. Hed still be better than these dreadful DBs we have now.

  9. Do these guys ever break down a sentence grammatically?

‘ya’all don’t want to hit nobody’

Meaning: All of you want to hit people.

    Please…………….

  10. “a pretty defense”?!?! WHAT?!?!

I’ve been an Eagles fan for over 30 years, and trust me, this is one of the UGLIEST defenses I’ve ever seen!!!

Point taken. The Eagles as a team let the Saints score .75 of a single point over their season average. The eagles defense/special teams however only allowed 21 points. which is 6.25 points below the Saints season average.

For the Falcons, the defense let them score 2.5 points over their season average. It was a horrible game for the defense but even worse for the offense. The falcons may have scored 2.5 more points than their average but the eagles offense scored 10.5 points less than the falcons pts/game average. It was a horrible game all the way around.

  12. Don’t fire you D coordinator just because he can’t make up for everything the offense does wrong. If you want to watch good defense then they need to have a few things: an offense that will give them rest (ball control or at least a few first downs), a lead to rush the passer and force turnovers, and when you do force stops the offense needs to put up something….anything, three points even. Those points then rack up.

  13. Ha.. repeat yourself much?

I like DRC. he is a player i can respect for his play, even with the rest of the D looking porous.. but can someone please ‘splain to me, why can’t these players speak in English?

What the hell language was that? Last i heard/read/saw, Nnamdi spoke better English than that, and he’s a foreigner..

Unfortunately, for DRC, the effort put into your speech is indicative of the effort you put into your life..

  14. @cav2ya dude this guy plays in the NFL is quite successful and you want to talk about how he speaks? Go watch a spelling bee or something.

Wasnt it when Sheldon Brown folded Reggie Bush in half mid field?? That was a hit.

  16. @vicksprman
    dude you’re missing the point…

I think he is a really good player.. he’s way better than Asante.. and really showin up Nnamdi.

is it really that hard to speak fluently and clearly?

How many Superbowl rings does teddy bruschi have? Or Joe Montana? Ray Lewis? John Elway? Steve Young, Jerry Rice… I NEVER heard a line from those guys like the above DRC quote…

And since there isn’t any Hockey on right now, what are your choices to watch the 6 days of the week when there’s no Football? you watching Jersey Shore or something?

  17. This Eagles D is the future of the NFL. NO HITTING.

I bet they are near bottom of the league in fines for illegal hits AKA real football.

Good Defenses who hit – are penalized and fined for it repeatedly until one day all teams will play like the Eagles do now.

I mean Vick gets run over trying to get to a player and gets fined for illegal block. ITs FOOTBALL GOODELL. If fantasy wasnt around I would stop watching. Think about it
