Roethlisberger has never played an entire 16-game regular season, which means he’s used to being paid (except for that four-game suspension in 2010) without actually playing.
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: If he’s compelled to miss a game, he then should not be paid for the game that he misses. He’d end up forfeiting about $800,000.

My father was a pediatric surgeon. I sure hope that if there was a preemie who needed an operation while I was being born, he’d go do that instead of doing something that a) I would never remember b) has nothing to do with his being a good father (which he is). I’d respect him more for being responsible and prioritizing the event that would effect the most amount of people since it effects his own newborn absolutely zero. And as for wifey, I would hope she would understand that her lifestyle is due to what her man does for a living and chalk it up to being part of the deal. And I’m a woman.

They shouldn’t be talking about it anyway. Just shut up about it and keep it between you and the team. This is like saying “what ever – I do what I want”. If it happens then talk about it, but why srtur the hornets nest? Do they feel like they are being mistreated and have to get the word out? Maybe Ben should take the ‘busa out for a ride without a helmet again. that’s so cool when people buy high performance motorcycles and then ride them like they are cruisers. lol! D-word!

This could really suck, especially if it is against the Ravens. What hurts almost as much is there is no way of preparing for the exact date, so Ben could take the usual 80-90 percent of the snaps in practice for the week and then all of a sudden Leftwich gets thrown to the wolves.

He’s not having the baby on a Sunday. This is what you call having your cake and eating it too. Has anyone heard of C-section or inductions? This is where you plan when the baby is delivered. Sure he will look like an all American hero, but let see him in the doctors office when it comes to pick a day for the induction. My guess is the Doctor don’t work on Sunday’s I will even go further I bet it happens the day after a home game! anyone want to take that bet.

I think they are intertwined. The owners care about the fans, money they bring in and especially WINNING and everything that goes along with that. It is also a decision by the employer and employee. If I was the owner, I would expect my guy who gets paid 11 million a season, would be there for every game. (Unless of a death.)

I just happen to believe that being there on the days that matter most for your job come with the territory of being an athlete. Just like being on the road for holidays etc. It sucks, but its your job. No one forced him to sign a million dollar contract.

No problem solving skills at all, just have the wife at the stadium for the games, if the water breaks all they have to do is take her into the team locker room just before the little mongoloid’s head pops out, have Ben take a few plays off, if the baby is half as greasy as dad, it will slide right out, Ben may miss 1 series max.

I’m not a parent and even I see how important the birth of your child is……I’ll be at the Ravens game and yes as a Steelers fan I will be disappointed to not see him play if it comes down to it BUT so what….I still recognize that his family is more important than a game…..sheesh!!!

I also agree that the birth of your child is one of the most important events in anyone’s life, and should not be missed. I would encourage Ben to be there with his wife and child when it happens, and have no doubt he will be there when it happens.

With that being said, in a worst case timing scenario, unless the baby is born within a few hours of game start time or during the game, I think it gives Ben the chance to be there and then play in the game. I assume his wife will give birth in a downtown Pittsburgh hospital but not sure. If so, it shouldn’t take Ben more than a few hours tops to get from the hospital (with police escort) to being on the field ready to play, I would think. So if the baby is born at least a few hours before game time, once he confirms everything is fine with wife and baby and calms down, I assume he then can consider attending the game with a clear conscience, and basically killing 2 birds with one stone (excuse the pun!). If it came down to that unique timing of course. But I doubt it will and things will work out fine.
