Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was taken to the locker room early in the third quarter of Monday night’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Chiefs’ defenders Justin Houston and Tamba Hali sandwiched Roethlisberger on a third down play early in the quarter and he was taken to the locker room shortly after. The Steelers announced that Roethlisberger was being evaluated for a right shoulder injury and was questionable to return to the game.
Byron Leftwich replaced Roethlisberger under center on the next Pittsburgh drive. Roethlisberger was 9 of 18 for 84 yards and a touchdown pass before leaving the game.
UPDATE 10:40 p.m. ET: ESPN’s telecast showed Roethlisberger out of his shoulder pads being taken by cart further up the tunnel.
UPDATE 11:19 p.m. ET: Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com reported that Roethlisberger has left the stadium and is being taken to a hospital to have an MRI performed on his injured shoulder.
