With the Eagles desperately trying to turn their season around, they’ve made a move designed to shore up their struggling offensive line.

Veteran guard Jake Scott, who has been a free agent all year and has said he would only sign when the right opportunity came along, has now found that opportunity in Philadelphia. The Eagles announced today that they’ve signed Scott to a one-year deal.

Scott started all 16 games for seven straight years from 2005 to 2011 with the Colts and the Titans, and he played for Eagles offensive line coach Howard Mudd in Indianapolis, so he knows the system in Philadelphia. Considering the sorry state of the Eagles’ offensive line, it’s entirely possible that Scott could step into the starting lineup immediately.

To make room for Scott on the roster, the Eagles have released guard Julian Vandervelde.
