APNext Monday night’s game between the Bears and the 49ers features a pair of quarterbacks who may miss the game due to concussions.
One of those quarterbacks could be moving closer to playing.
49ers coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters that Alex Smith “slept well last night,” that “things are looking positive,” and that Smith will visit with a neurologist on Monday, via Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com.
Smith suffered a concussion in 2011, but he missed no games. If he can’t play, Colin Kaepernick will get his first career start.
For more from Maiocco, here’s a chunk of Monday’s PFT Live.

Alex will be glad to get out of the house today because no one would answer that goddamn phone that was ringing all night long.
The neurologist should ask him if he knows the overtime rules. And if he does, he’s cleared to play.
It would be really nice to have him to take the #2 seed away from the Bears. Atlanta’s cracks got taken advantage of Sunday as well.
But it seems my 49ers have their own problems. The defense was asleep in the 1st Qtr this week (like against the NYG) and then allowed that late TD after Harbaugh’s staff failed to protect against the 2nd!! fake punt of the game. If we send out the normal defense there, its probably game over.
Fisher taught Harbaugh a lesson there.
More comments about “flag football” and desire for an 18 game season please!
I hope Alex Smith has his own physicians involved, because I wouldn’t trust Jim Harbaugh with my health/life.
I hope he’s ok – the niners are more fun to watch when they are firing on all cylinders.
One of a few 49er fans here saying “get better soon, Alex!”.
The caretaker to the rescue?
San Fran 49ers’ 57 year old quarterback Alex Smith is doing well today.
I hope we get to watch Kaepernick – way more upside than the game manager.
