In the Bears-Texans game, the refs should have had the benefit of the red line showing that Jay Cutler threw that pass to Hester before crossing the line of scrimmage, even the announcers thought that was a bad call...Cost the Bears a 1st.-and-goal, since Dobbins' illegal hit on Cutler would have not been offset.

That said, I am notblaming the loss on anyone but the Bears, they had plenty of other plays that were fumbled away (Davis and Bush), or dropped (Marshall in the end zone, Davis again.)

The replacement officials were not any worse than these regular officials. And for those watching the MNF game tonight between KC and Pitt, don't tell me the refs don't regularly make bad calls that favor the homes teams, and the Steelers are, historically, the greatest benefactors of poorly officiated games. Tonight, KC had a touchdown called back on a terrible holding call. It must be nice to be a Steeler's fan, but wouldn't you all rather get legitimate wins (including Super Bowl wins)? I'm not even a Chiefs fan, but I am tonight! Go Chiefs! Down with the old guard Steelers and the tyranny they represent!

The TV announcers have caused a lot of confusion about scoring plays and turnovers being "reviewed".

On such a play, the replay official looks over the replay. If he doesn't think anything is wrong, he sends a text to the field that the play is confirmed and the next play proceeds. It's only if the replay official sees something questionable that he signals the referee to go under the hood and make a final review and ruling.

What the NFL admitted is, the replay official should have noticed the ball being tossed before it crossed the plane, and should have then signaled for the referee to make a final review. The replay official instead signaled "confirmed" and there could be no further action by the field officials.

As for the clock, the official clock is the scoreboard clock unless it malfunctions, then the clock is kept on the field by the line judge.

The officiating errors are basically the same. The only real differences are the flow/timing is better (so the TV schedule is not hindered as much) and these officials are more confident in themselves and rarely question each other. Lack of confidence caused those marathon conferences in many replacement ref games. Most of the same mistakes are being made by these guys (poor spots, missed calls, phantom calls, obvious error even after replay, calling penalties on guys that were not on the field, microphone issues/bad explanations, game changing mistakes, etc.) but nobody is screaming about it any more because there are no "scabs" doing unionized jobs. Somehow these mistakes by the "real refs have no impact on safety or game integrity but all replacement ref mistakes could have ended professional football as we know it. BS. The mistakes are just as frequent but are not as scrutinized or magnified by the media.

I guess they forgot about the Patriots v. Bills game where they called a pass interferance call for Gronkowski, when the ball was thrown 20 past him to Brandon Loyd. And on the same drive another PI call against bills that brady threw out of the enzone and was completly out of play and uncatchable. These penalties gave the Pats about 50 yards and put the ball on the 1 basically handing them a touchdown before the half..Of course the Bills lose by 6 and little Brady gets his Win..Refs love Patriots and Tom Brady it’s just not fair to other players and teams and their fans..

God damn right. The Patriots were just about handed that TD. The Refs sure do love Belichick, Brady and the Patriots. Bills lose by 6, without Brady's free touchdown, the Bills go home with a W!

@bucdanfango it’s clear you dont watch many patriot games. i agree with you alot of times these things balance out but the patriots go all the way back to much earlier last decade and it was even evident yesterday and anyone who pays any attention can see they have got away with serious holding on the o-line that seems to never get called they always seem to get these big calls late in games or game changing calls. the calls or no calls somehow or another seem to favor the pats most of the time and when you couple that with all the cheating they have gotten away with they should have 10 superbowls by now. if they took away thier refs and video cameras the pats may not win another game

-------------------------------------------------------

all their cheating, all those paid off refs and they still haven't gotten those "10 superbowls". Then we have other posters whining about how the Giants owe the Steelers 14 points because the refs were in the New Yorker pockets....

"They only check for the obvious, and didnt think someone would be so stupid as to drop the ball b4 crossing the GL.. its not like they have ever seen it happen b4."

Actually YES they have seen it happen before. Years ago a Titan(I forget who it was) actually dropped the ball before he crossed the plane. It was recovered by the other team. They called Touchdown, it ended up being reviewed and overturned Opposition got the ball back on the 1.

So yessir it did happen and yessir the League has seen it happen before.

Still waiting on an apology for spotting the Giants 14 points last week. Every game I watched had horrendous officiating. I have sunday ticket so that was a hand full. This is every week though. The regular refs have performed well below the standard the replacements set earlier this season. Fine the refs! I dont use twitter. Someone get that trending. I personally don't agree with the fines. The flogs gates have already been opened though. Might as well fine these repeat offenders.
Fine the refs! I'm talking replay officials too!

@bucdanfango it's clear you dont watch many patriot games. i agree with you alot of times these things balance out but the patriots go all the way back to much earlier last decade and it was even evident yesterday and anyone who pays any attention can see they have got away with serious holding on the o-line that seems to never get called they always seem to get these big calls late in games or game changing calls. the calls or no calls somehow or another seem to favor the pats most of the time and when you couple that with all the cheating they have gotten away with they should have 10 superbowls by now. if they took away thier refs and video cameras the pats may not win another game

"No 1 on the Packers team or any of their fans are going to say we lost fair and square. No way in he.."

Well, you lost. Fair or not, the Packers lost. The Seahawks have lost games plenty of times that they shouldn't have.

Packers and Packers fan should count their lucky stars if that is the only game the refs have taken away from your team. It happens to a lot of teams fairly frequently. True, it doesn't always have on the last play of the game, but that's really beside the point.

If you want to talk about reviewing a call the refs made then you MUST review all the calls the refs made. And if you do that then the outcome really could go either way. So just get over it. You lost, fair or not. That's the way it goes on any given Sunday.

for all you Carolina fans complaining about your ST I feel your pain (Lions fan) I believe the easiest thing to do is neutralize a ST teams stud in the return game, all you have to do is NOT KICK IT TO HIM. That is all, squib it, kick it out of bounds, whatever you do, you will give you a few yards for free but you don't have to worry about a long return or a TD. It drives me insane when the Lions kick to Hester twice a season, or any other stud KR/PR because you can choose to just not send the ball that way and the problem is avoided.

This is barely even worth mentioning, it's not like it's news to anyone that has been following the league for more than 2 weeks.
The "official" officials are every bit as useless as the replacements were and are making multiple outcome altering errors in virtually every game.
Lets not even get onto the subject of them preventing player injuries.
Rey Lewis, Michael Vick, Alex Smith, Jay Cutler, Lardarius Webb, Brian Cushing, Quincy Black, and all other NFL players would like to thank the league for making a deal to bring back the refs that prevent injury.

“Because the video showed that Holliday lost possession of the ball before it broke the plane of the goal line, [replay official Bob] Boylston should have stopped the game to initiate an instant replay review,” the statement said.

“Had that occurred, [referee Al] Riveron would have had the indisputable visual evidence necessary to overturn the on-field ruling.”

I'm confused. Regardless of what the video showed, I thought all scoring plays were automatically reviewed. Why wasn't this one?
