Nick Foles, the rookie who took the helm when Vick went down on Sunday against the Cowboys, may keep the job the rest of the season while the Eagles will claim they’re “resting” Vick, according to a report from Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports. Sources told Cole that Reid will use Vick’s concussion as his excuse to go to Foles, and to position himself in the eyes of owner Jeffrey Lurie and General Manager Howie Roseman as the right coach to mold Foles into a franchise quarterback.
“I’m 99 percent sure that’s exactly what you’re going to see happen,” one source told Cole. “Andy is going to go to Jeff and Howie and say, ‘Let’s go with Foles and make the transition to the next era.’”
If benching Vick and starting Foles is the only way Reid can save his job, then that’s probably what Reid will do. Barring a miraculous turnaround, this season will be viewed as a disappointment in Philadelphia, but a disappointment that includes Foles establishing himself as a promising starter for the future may be what Reid needs to save his own skin.
