woodhead would be a nice change of pace player on any team but the Pats – jets didnt want to let him go but you dont cut a high draft choice like Mcknight for an undrafted “nice” player.

Woodhead is the type of role player that championship teams need to be successful.

The Redskins always had them during Gibbs 1.0. Bobby Beathard was a genius at finding them, Gibbs and Richie Pettibon would coach them up a bit, and they’d contribute to winning games and Super Bowls.

If the the Patriots had won the Super Bowl Woodhead would have been the MVP of that game not Brady.

I love the guy he’s a great 3rd down back and has a really strong rapport with Brady which in Patriots land is a must.

Wood head would be nothing on any other team..see: Sammy Morris, Deion branch , Ben Watson, David givens Troy brown….etc…
Wood head is nice for NE but lets not make him out to be Arian foster or CJ spiller

Brady does like the short guys over the middle: (1) he gets to keep the ball low so misses are not likely to be intercepted, (2) short guys can make cuts to get open quickly, and (3) the routes may be short but they pick up YAC and move the chains

Not surprising that Woodhead, playing only about 17 offensive plays, scored two touchdowns and was a key to the Patriots victory on a day that the Patriots honored another role player during halftime, Kevin Faulk.

Given the Patriots depth at RB it’s not inconceivable that Woodhead may face some serious competition in the offseason

Of course if any team is smart they will seek a trade rather than compete in the free market.

There seems to be a ‘special’ hatred for the Jets. The Pats and Colts (or, more accurately, the Brady-led Pats and Peyton-led Colts) had a heated rivalry, but with an element of mutual respect, at least from my perspective. The Pats seem to hate the Jets in a more pure, “just get out of the way” manner.

And I like when guys like Brady and Peyton get in a couple of snarky digs while maintaining that carefully bland, courteous demeanor. It amuses me.

Everyone is missing the funny part! The Jets cut Woodhead because they just used a 4th round pick on Joe McKnight and they wanted him to the third down back. Joe McKnight went 113th overall. Next pick in the draft: Aaron Hernandez.

It’s very conceivable that both Patriots players stalwarts could be in gang green. No McKnight, they probably keep Woodhead. No McKnight, maybe they draft Hernandez.

He’s the real Rudy. 5-foot-nothing, 100-and-nothing.

Some players just fit some systems better than others. Woodhead is not an every down back, but he does serve a nice role as a pass catcher, blitz protector and running back in certain situations.

He is a great story of never giving up when so many others told you that you couldn’t even play college ball let alone score a touchdown in Super Bowl XLVI.

Simplest way to put it: Woodhead is the new Kevin Faulk…obviously no one can replace the immortal Kevin Faulk but Woodhead has slipped into that role in which he can get you the much needed score or conversion…He doesn’t put up big numbers and isn’t flashy but he gets the job done and that’s what the Jets missed…And he’s also a good change of pace back to compliment Ridley, who is more of a bruiser than Woodhead, and also is perfect in the hurry-up offense

Anyone, who is criticizing Woodhead’s numbers probably does not get to watch the Patriots every week. I don’t even know what his exact numbers are, but he seems to ALWAYS be there when the Pats need a huge 3rd down pickup….often more than 10 yards. Woodhead usually comes through in those situations.

He’s not a backup RB you idiot, Vereen is. He’s the team’s 3rd down back and 2 minute drill back. He is awesome in that role and would be awesome on any team in that role. And he never made him out to be Payton. Just as usual, told it exactly how it is.

Sorry Jets fans. This by no means was a shot, but it does give you one more thing to feel miserable about.

In 2008 I remember going to Hofstra to watch the jets 7 on 7 practice and this guy was clearly noticeable.

In 2009 this kid was lighting up special teams and had fans saying who this this guy, he’s incredible. I can’t see why the Jets waived him because I always saw his potential and he showed it on those eagle preseason games. Now the pats can sit back and laugh.

—————————————————-Do you ever watch football? Do you know how ignorant you sound? I am not a Patriots fan, but can still appreciate how their team can use a players talent to fit what they need. Woodhead is a good example, Welker too. Maximize a players talent and minimize his short-comings. Fit the team to the player, not the player to the team. Rex Ryan is to set in his ways…needs to adjust his team to the players talent. There was no place for Woodhead, because he only saw a small RB….not a football player. Until he opens his eyes more, players will slip through his grasp. Teebow is seeing that now.
