The last two weeks have been far from pretty for the Oakland Raiders defense. It’s a pair of performances head coach Dennis Allen isn’t at all happy with.
According to Josh Dubow of the Associated Press, Allen was blunt in his evaluation of the defensive performance.
''That outcome was unacceptable,’' Allen said. ''We have to be better than that.’'
Allen was referring to the 55-20 clobbering at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco threw for 341 yards and three touchdowns Baltimore put up 419 yards of total offense against the Raiders. This coming just a week after Doug Martin rushed for a Tampa Bay franchise-record 251 yards against the Raiders and the Buccaneers posted 515 yards of total offense in a 42-32 victory.
According to Dubow, it’s the first time the Raiders have allowed at least 40 point in back-to-back games in a half-century and the 97 points over the past two weeks are the second-most in a two-game span in team history.
''I wish there was a magical answer,’' Allen said. ''I know everybody wants a magical, ‘This is the solution,’ but at the end of the day, and I’ve said this over and over, it’s about us doing our job the right way every single time.”
