Falcons place Tommy Gallarda on injured reserve

The Atlanta Falcons placed backup tight end Tommy Gallarda on injured reserve Tuesday with a shoulder injury suffered in last Sunday’s 31-27 loss to the New Orleans Saints.

Gallarda appeared in all nine games for the Falcons and recorded just one catch for seven yards. The Falcons promoted tight end Chase Coffman from the practice squad to take Gallarda’s place on the active roster. Coffman last appeared in a game with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2010. Coffman played in six games for the Bengals with three catches for 30 yards.

Atlanta also signed wide receiver Tim Toone to the active roster and tight end Andrew Szczerba to the practice squad. Toone takes he place of recently released defensive end Ray Edwards on the Falcons’ roster.  Toone spent training camp with the Falcons before being waived-injured on Sept. 6.
