Jets looking for help at running back

Most of the focus on the problems with the Jets offense have focused on the play of quarterback Mark Sanchez, but Sanchez is hardly the only reason the unit has performed poorly this season.

The running game has been a non-factor as well. Shonn Greene’s been healthy but unproductive and backups Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight have both battled injuries over the course of the season. Powell is currently dealing with a concussion and McKnight missed the loss to the Seahawks because of an ankle injury, leaving the team shorthanded in the backfield.

According to Jason LaCanfora of, they plan to rectify that situation on Tuesday. They will be working out several running backs and intend to sign one of them to the active roster. Among the backs coming in for a look are former Bear Khalil Bell and former Texan and Dolphin Steve Slaton.

Slaton played for offensive coordinator Tony Sparano in Miami, which could give him a slight edge in the competition. Whoever gets the job could wind up getting work right away thanks to the team’s injury issues at the position right now, although it is hard to imagine they’ll cause a significant change in production for the team’s ground game.

What about Tebow, you’re paying him anyway.

    Don’t bother…

Lose everygame and get some good picks next year…a GOOD QB would be nice, new OL, some wide receivers, and a running back.

I still believe we’re good on defense.

In need of help at QB and RB? In both cases, Tebow could almost help you out, but not quite.

Cutting Danny Woodhead looks like another great move by the HC and GM. They could really use a pass catching RB right now. Keeping Joe McKnight over Woodhead was a bad move.

The Jets need to trade for Chris Ivory at the end of this season

There are no better RBs out there?

That’s it Tony, keep picking up spare junk parts from Miami. How is this guy an OC in the NFL?

The Jets RB struggles are two fold:

    1) Their RB’s just aren’t very good. Shonn Greene would be a backup at best on most teams.

    2) Because teams don’t have to worry about Sanchez beating them at all, they can load up in the box and focus solely on stopping the run.

Always liked Bell with the Bears and have been waiting for him to get a shot somewhere. Runs hard and I think he could be a good number 2 running back option. Only problem is ball security, but Slaton is pretty terrible at holding onto the ball too.

Well maybe if they stopped placing one of their RBs at QB on the depth chart………….

  11. spellingcops says: Nov 13, 2012 12:26 PM

Didn’t they trade for one in the off season?

  12. jordan468 says: Nov 13, 2012 12:29 PM

Guess Tom Brady was right, they shouldn’t have let Danny Woodhead go…

Someone let Tiki know his chance for a comeback is now.

Thanks again for cutting Danny Woodhead.

Tebow still looks like the best runner on the team and more like Mike Alstott than Dan Marino (or is it John Riggins and Richard Todd). If he was really the unselfish, team-first guy the media says he is, he would be chomping at the bit to help his team by making that move on his own.

  18. brenenostler says: Nov 13, 2012 1:55 PM

I think they meant to say they’re looking for help at QB.

I don’t understand the obsession the Jets have for ex-Dolphins. They sign players who have out-worn their welcome because of fading/ non-existant skills and then seem surprised when they don’t play well.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Sparano’s arrival in NY has led to their 3-6 record this year. I had 4 years of this watching Sparano sign cast-offs from a sub-par Cowboys team. He has no idea how to acquire talent, coach it or game plan. Nice guy though!

Woodhead is a role player. Every time they run Green up the middle he goes nowhere, but every time they sweep left or right he’s get six or seven yards. I am amazed that they dont see that… wait, I take that back, I’m not amazed

  21. noahbird says: Nov 13, 2012 3:48 PM

Try running Tebow. The Jets gave up/pay him enough to let him line up in the backfield WITH Sanchez.

  22. marima07 says: Nov 13, 2012 4:16 PM

I think Laurence Maroney is available. His dancing act would fit right in under the big tent.

  23. paredskinwarrior1985 says: Nov 13, 2012 9:21 PM

what about Tim tebow??? lmao that joke and talentless backup won’t start again in his life, he is just horrid!!!
he does have the skill set to be a power back or hback or te in a couple of years of training in those positions, but HE DEF DOES NOT HAVE THE BRAINS NOR THE TALENT TO EVER BE ALLOWED TO PLAY QB OR WILDCAT QB AGAIN!!! JUST BEING A CHRISTIAN PROVES HOW STUPID HE REALLY IS AND SHOULDN’T EVER BE ALLOWED TO PLAY QB

  24. paredskinwarrior1985 says: Nov 13, 2012 9:26 PM

lmao tebow he isn’t even smart enough and doesn’t even have the talent to play rb on the scout team!!!!!
the selfish Christian turd will be cut and out of the nfl this offseason!!!
only the jets were stupid enough to waste a roster spot on that turd!!!
as bad as the jags are and them and there fans don’t want anything to do with teturd says a lot about how much talent he really has!!!!!
