APIn what could be a strong to quite strong hint that guard Logan Mankins will miss some time with an ankle injury suffered on Sunday against the Bills, the Patriots have signed free-agent guard Mitch Petrus.
The team announced the move on Tuesday.
Petrus was waived by the Giants earlier this month, when the defending Super Bowl champs needed to create a roster spot for tight end Travis Beckum. A fourth-round pick in 2010, Petrus appeared in six games this season and six games with three starts in 2011.
He also appeared in every postseason game, including New York’s win over New England in Super Bowl XLVI.
Mankins was seen leaving Gillette Stadium in a walking boot after Sunday’s game.

Kid was good last year, but horrible this year. I was shocked he actually made the 53 man roster after his preseason performance. Maybe he’ll be able to get it back together with the Pats, but I doubt it.
hard to believe that the once mighty pats, are getting this desperate
I didn’t know he could play tight end?
He is very strong. I think that the pats can cover his weakness in other areas.
the Faketriots are gonna need all the help they can when Luck and the Colts come running into New Eng-lame
If you can’t beat ‘em, grab all of their cast-offs…
What the hell ever happened to the idea of Marcus Cannon being able to play guard? He’s just gonna sit on the depth chart behind Vollmer for the rest of his life?
Good player; glad to see him get to continue his career with another good organization.
Marcus is a great run blocker but he needs work in pass protection. You’ll see him on the field in goal line sets and obvious run situations.
I don’t think you’ll ever see him at guard though. He played his entire college career at tackle and he seems most comfortable there. The same things were said about Matt Light when he first got drafted.
All the stuff about him playing guard was all just draft “experts” running their mouths. I don’t think there was ever any intention by the Pats to play him there.
Also this article fails to mention that Dan Connolly was also injured in the game against the Bills, although his injury apparently isn’t as severe.
“the Faketriots are gonna need all the help they can when Luck and the Colts come running into New Eng-lame”
Faketriots…? New Eng-lame…?
You sound like a jealous child, troll.
Injuries happen and you deal with it. Shut the hell up haters. It’ll never be an excuse for the patriots, we’ll just continue winning
I’m guessing anyone going by the monicker rdrntn would be an expert on desperation. Just lose baby !
