APColts cornerback Darius Butler is on his second team of the season, but just won his first award.
Butler was named AFC defensive player of the week after a standout performance in the Colts win over the Jaguars. He had two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown, along with a fumble recovery and breaking up two passes.
Butler picked off both Jaguars quarterbacks, taking Blaine Gabbert’s pass to the house and getting Chad Henne later in the game to help the Colts win their fourth straight game.
It’s the first player of the week award for Butler, who was cut by the Panthers prior to the start of the regular season.

Evidently the judges didn’t watch #58 in the Denver Carolina game. Dude owned that game.
Apparently the voters didn’t watch the Denver – Carolina game……Von Miller wrecked Cam Newton.
Good for Butler. He earned the honor. Keep up the excellence DB!
Colts must have a good coach handling the defensive backs. The Patriots sure as hell don’t.
Panthers and Patriots cut him.
why cant my patriots get solid young CB’s like Butler!
Good for Butler!
Yeah the Patriots cut him but that’s either because he couldn’t learn the system or just wasn’t performing at a high enough level to even earn a spot on a pretty anemic Patriots secondary.
It looks like getting cut by two teams served as a wake up call. That’s a great example for other players out there on all teams lucky enough to get a second (or third) chance!
Good for him. He seems to be a good kid from his time with the Pats, I wish him well.
Fire Josh Boyer!!!!
He went through some difficulties with the Pats, but left on good terms. This week will be interesting against his old team.
Guess Von will just have to settle for defensive player of the year, he’s half a sack behind Watt and has more tackles for loss by a decent margin.
