Jimmy Graham’s big day gets rewarded

The Saints’ attempt to dig out from under their 0-4 start to return to the playoff picture got a huge boost from Sunday’s 31-27 win over the Falcons.

Tight end Jimmy Graham played a big role in that winning effort. He caught seven passes for a career-high 146 yards and two touchdowns as the Saints handed the Falcons their first loss of the season. As a result of that performance, the NFL announced today that Graham is the NFC offensive player of the week.

Graham wasn’t the only tight end to have a good day in New Orleans. Tony Gonzalez had 11 catches and two touchdowns, good enough to earn him (and Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan) consideration for weekly honors despite the loss.

It was the first time this season that Graham topped 100 receiving yards in a game, although he has been on a pretty good roll since returning from an ankle injury three weeks ago. Graham has 20 catches for 281 yards and four touchdowns in the last three games, two of which have been Saints wins. The Saints will need him to keep producing at that level to keep their chances of moving on to the postseason alive. Based on recent results, Graham should be able to do that if he remains healthy.

Catching passes from Drew brees, big deal. There were other offensive performances more deserving, such as Calvin Johnson’s 200 yard receiving day or AP’s 171 yard rushing day.

I was hoping this was going to be a story about him getting a new contract.

Lock this guy up long-term already!

With all due respect to Adrian Peterson and Calvin Johnson, Jimmy Graham in my opinion is simply the scariest offensive thread in the NFL. He’s 6 foot 7 and has blazing speed, and Lebron James’ type hops. He’s a matchip nightmare.

Its amazing to see him play well this week after still being partly injured, but the ceiling on this dude is super high.

My beloved 49ers last year beat him in the playoffs, but Jimmy Graham was making catches with air tight coverage by Patrick Willis who’s only flaw was not being 6 inches taller to stop him.

    Freakish

Great two watch those two TE this past weekend. TG arguably greatest TE in history and blazing the trail for players like Antonio Gates and Jimmy Graham.

Was awesome watching the Falcons switching from LB to Safety to corners. Just trying to find a way to cover him. Great player to watch.

7 catches for 146 yards. That’s an average of 20.8 yards per catch. Graham deserves that recognition.
