Heckert is fantastic when compared to other GMs. Compare his ability to draft NFL starters to any other gm in the NFL…. He shines. I know the Browns talent and depth haven’t been great…. but consider… are we more talented today then we were three years ago…

as for Banner, he looks like an over educated banker that makes decisions based on numbers. If so, then Heckert stays… if Heckert goes it will have to be a political move..

What decision is there to make? They want their “own guy” in there. Shurmur is overwhelmed, but they’d be firing anyone other than a HOF coach, regardless.

I agree with everything except for drafting Julio Jones. Julio openly said he would never want to play for Cle not even for the highest amount. He also said if he were drafted he would holdout till who knows. I personally think they did not want to deal with that mess.

Shurmur punts on 4th and 2 trailing late in the 4th at around the INDY 35 yet goes for it on 4th and 5 deep in THEIR OWN territory late in the 4th against the Ravens. Oh and he handed off to Alex Smith at the goal line last year…….the worst part……Shurmur said he didn’t know Smith was in the game!!! And that’s just a few of the many missteps. Shurmur is a dead man walking!!!

Joe Banner reminds me alot of John Collins and Carmen Policy. Two other brilliant guys choosen to run the Browns.

Bringing Banner in is going to end badly for the Browns. He will either take all the credit for the work Heckert and Shurmur have done or he will clean house and set the team back another 3 to 5 years.

Clevelanders dont want to beleive it…mark my words.

The Browns have 17 rookies on the roster and are playing competitive football, thanks to Tom Heckert. He must stay.
Shurmur, on the other hand, is in way over his head. He was never a head coach before and has proven over the past year and a half that he is not the man to lead a team into the playoffs.
I hope that Banner has Chip Kelly’s phone number.

A lot of “experts” are pegging Andy Reid as the clear successor to Norv Turner in San Diego after this year. They point to the fact that Reid is an LA guy & he & his wife have a home half way between LA & SD. I disagree. I believe Shurmur will be gone at season’s end & Andy Reid will come in to Cleveland to be their next head coach. The Eagles were at their best when Banner & Reid were working together as team president & head coach, respectively. I feel that Reid will be given a boat load of money, as well as significant input with Banner regarding personnel decisions to come to the Browns. If this takes place, the Browns will have made a very good decision & would clearly be headed in the right direction. Reid made Kolb look like an All-Pro & Weeden has significantly more talent & upside than Kolb ever did; Reid can do wonders with Weeden & turn the Browns into a respectable team.

I don’t know about Heckert. I do know he hasn’t drafted a bust and many of his mid round selections are performing well. Personally, I think Shurmur is ruining Weeden.

I was hoping they would fire him before the bye week, his loser mentality needs to go asap.

These guys were deadmen walking as soon as Haslam signed to buy the team in July and they knew it. Heckert was already making calls during training camp looking for other work. Shurmur is simply auditioning for future head coach gigs right now. Banner’s stuff now is simply PR, nothing more. Haslam/Banner already have their short list for GM & head coach and may have wink-and-nod deals in place already.

Just fire Shurmur now. Have Chili or Dick coach the rest of the year. Both have had reasonable success in the past and Shurmur has done NOTHING to prove he should even be a coordinator. He has no heart and he looks like an idiot standing on the sideline constantly getting out coached every week. Truly nothing but a sad loser. There’s no way any player in that locker room has an ounce of respect for him. Please just out him and me out of our misery.

Hiring Shurmur was a mistake from the beginning. I don’t understand why Cleveland doesn’t try to hire Brian Billick or someone that’s already had a lot of success. Hiring first-time head coaches or recently fired head coaches hasn’t been the answer, and Cleveland has to do something to show their fans they want to win football games.

I feel sorry for Cleveland fans.

Fritz Shurmur’s nephew definitely needs to go. Never should’ve gotten the job in the 1st place. Heckert can stay. I’m not as hung up on him as some if my counterparts. Hardesty & Little were huge reaches who still haven’t shown us ANYTHING. As for Weeden: he ABSOLUTELY would’ve been on the board @ 37. Any Browns fan who thinks otherwise needs their head checked. We will see.

Spectacular job???????? 3 years on the job and we are not even close to a .500 team. Little, Marecic, Hardesty, Sheard, Hughes… He has been absoloutely horrible when he actually pursued a free agent, Rucker, Watson, Jackson… We could be sitting with Julio Jones and RGIII, but instead have a 29 year old rookie and the worst receiving corps in the NFL. He has failed to bring in a playmaker on either side of the ball with his stockpile of picks and he has been picking at the top of each round in all of his drafts. This guy gets a pass in CLE because the 3 regimes before him were awful and he has just been below average.

Heckert has been decent, but let’s go over some things. His 2010 draft resulted in only 2 decent players: Pill-popper Haden and Mr. Glass Ward. (Lauvao is garbage). 2011 he traded Julio Jones for Greg Little, Marecic, and Weeden & Taylor. Taylor and Sheard have been decent, that’s it from that draft. 2012 we reached on every player. T-Rich is getting outplayed by Doug Martin and 6th round RB Morris. Could of got Weeden in the 2nd round. Schwartz has been good but he was a reach. Winn in the 6th is decent and a bunch of nobodies. Just because you start it doesn’t mean your good. And he avoided free agency like the plague. Clean the slate. Goodbye.

The Browns have a lot of young talent on their team, and honestly I’ve watched a few of their games this year! They are playing hard, but it seems that their coach is blowing the games, with poor play calling and clock management. I think their GM, Tom Heckert is doing a great job building that team!

Being a Clevelander, I can tell you that the general sentiment is “get rid of Shurmur, but keep Heckert.”

Heckert’s done a great job drafting talent, but it’s not his fault if the Browns aren’t winning. It’s up to the coach to utilize that talent effectively. You can have a team consisting of Pro Bowlers, but if you can’t use them properly, you ain’t gonna win.

Heckert’s only major questionable draft pick is Weeden, but we DID need a QB.
