Denver Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil has yet to practice this week after suffering a sprained left shoulder in a win over the Carolina Panthers last week.

That’s expected to change tomorrow. According to Arnie Stapleton of the Associated Press, Dumervil plans on practicing on Friday in hopes of showing he’s healthy enough to play against the San Diego Chargers on Sunday.

“My goal is to play,” Dumervil said. “That’s what I’ve got to look toward tomorrow, coming out and getting a good practice in and getting ready.”

Dumervil was injured on a strip-sack of Panthers quarterback Cam Newton last week (pictured) and was forced to leave the game. An MRI showed no subsequent muscle or ligament damage to the Broncos Pro-Bowl pass rusher. Dumervil suffered a similar injury to the same shoulder a year ago but told Stapleton it’s “nowhere near” as serious or painful.

Dumervil has 36 tackles and seven sacks in nine games for the Broncos this season. His five forced fumbles leads the AFC and is tied with Panthers linebacker Charles Johnson for second-most in the league. Only Chicago Bears cornerback Charles Tillman has forced more with seven.
