Buffalo’s Leodis McKelvin was already leading the league in punt returns even before Thursday night. And then he did something special the first time he got his hands on the ball against Miami.
After the Dolphins went three-and-out on their opening possession, McKelvin took the ensuing punt at the 21-yard line, juked past the first wave of Dolphins coming toward him and then raced down the left sideline for a 79-yard touchdown.
The score was McKelvin’s second of the season; he also scored on an 88-yard punt return against the Chiefs in September. With his 88-yarder and his 79-yarder, McKelvin now has two of the three longest punt returns in the NFL this season.
McKelvin entered tonight’s game averaging 19.5 yards a punt return, and the 79-yarder pushed his average up to 23.7 yards. That’s a phenomenal number, and McKelvin has the Bills off to a great start.
