Raiders owner Mark Davis says he wants to see progress

AP

The Raiders were blown out at home against the Saints on Sunday, their third straight blowout loss, dropping their record to 3-7 on the season. Raiders owner Mark Davis is not satisfied with that.

According to Paul Gutierrez of CSNCalifornia.com, Davis said after the game that he thought heading into the season that the Raiders were good enough that they should make a playoff run, and he’s upset that they’re not even close.

“I’m patient, but I want to see progress. Not regression,” Davis said. “I’m embarrassed, pissed, disappointed and I take full responsibility.”

Those comments might not bode well for the job security of General Manager Reggie McKenzie and coach Dennis Allen, although if Davis is describing himself as “patient,” it seems unlikely that he would fire the two people he just hired this year. On the other hand, Mark’s dad Al Davis wasn’t shy about shaking things up if he didn’t like what he saw. And it’s clear that Mark Davis doesn’t like what he sees right now.

It would be hard for anyone in Oakland to like the way the Raiders have looked recently.

  1. Raiders look like the 2006 Raiders. But I would not give up on Reggie McKenzie or Dennis Allen. This is why the Raiders are in the mess they are in (part of the reason, of course). I think Mark will learn from his father’s mistakes. Now after the third year if the Raiders aren’t moving towards the playoffs heads will and should roll!

  2. The Raiders have their share of starting talent, the problem is a real lack of depth.

They have people playing out of position due to all the injuries, they need to add depth in the offseason.

  3. From the pic being used earlier this year, my favs are still:
“Is that Dobber from Coach”? or “Is that Rik Smits”?

  4. Mark Davis do a survey and ask’how many of you would want Carson palmer as the starter for your team?’

  5. If he honestly thought they were good enough to make the playoffs he’s even stupider than his haircut.

New coach. New GM. Horrible mismatched roster that needed (and still needs, to an extent) gutting and reshaping to give them any kind of cap flexibility. Laughably few draft picks due to management throwing them away year after year. And he wants playoffs THIS year?

    Idiot.

  6. Greg Knapp was a horrible hire. These retread OCs keep trotting out the same things that got them fired at their last jobs.

  7. Mark Davis can’t fire GM Reggie McKenzie after 1 season with no money, no draft picks and no talent. The team has been a mess for 10 years. You have to give it time.

  8. now that’s an old old skool hair style right there by Mark…man, if you want change..let that hair style go! how can todays players take this guy seriously..just saying

  9. Did someone photoshop a picture of Al Davis with 90s-era Jon Gruden’s hair?

  10. At this point I count Palmer, Reese, Myers, Wz, Veldheer, Wheeler, Burris, DHB, and Moore as the only players who are safe to be on the team next year.

It’s apparent many overrated players still need to be cleaned out from this team (i.e., Kelly, Branch, McLain, Huff, and a bunch more).

  11. Mark, Lloyd, or Spook, I could care less what they call you, but what you are is important, the owner of the Raiders, the son of a HOF. Do us all a huge favor here at Raider Nation….hit the reset button! This is not working. We could accept growing pains, but this season is regression. There is only one man in football that will have the desire, passion, work dedication, and full support to see this great franchise back to greatness. Please Mark-Lloyd-Spook, give Jon Gruden the keys to the football side of this franchise, He wants more than a head coaching gig, he wants power, the Nation is behind that power. Make the call tomorrow, give him any title now, executive of football operations sounds good. Please!

  12. He’s gotta relax, it’s going to take McKenzie more than a year to clean up Hugh Jackson’s mess

  13. Raiders need to completely rebuild. Cut Tommy Kelly and Richard Seymour, trade Carson Palmer for any draft picks you can get (buffalo, jacksonville), and if you can get some decent picks for Run DMC I’d trade him also just because he is always hurt and makes a ton of money. The raiders will be bad for at least 3 years but will be free of high salaries and will have a few complete drafts full of high draft picks.

  14. Lets not forget what a disaster the team’s personnel situation was in going into the season. The Palmer trade was a costly one and the “scholarship” program that was in place takes time to be fully rinsed and cleaned out. There will be holes as a result of years of mismanagement, but smart drafting and coaching can right the ship. It just won’t happen for 3 years..

Why was Gruden in the crowd today? It’s never a surprise to see Madden and Flores, but I was not expecting Chuckie to be there.

Because Gruden is in town for Chicago-S.F. on Monday Night Football, and he always checks in on the Raiders whenever he is in Northern Cali – like he did the previous years.

Probably will stop by Rickey’s Sports Bar as well. Gruden is lifelong Raider Nation strong.

  16. Not sure if Dennis Allen is HC material, (tho it seem he’s fixed the Raiders penalty issues no one’s ever solved) For sure Knapp and Tarver arnt Coordinator material! They need to go! i Still say Jamarcus set this team back at least 3 years..

  17. raiderdaddy:

Purple Drank set back the Raiders closer to a decade, to be honest. But compounding all that, was the inexplicable move to sell what remained of the farm, to get Carson Palmer last year. Just horrible.

Both the Raiders and the Chargers are doing it wrong, and they’re going to pay for it. The Chiefs at least have a shot at the 1st pick next year. But what good are the few extra wins by SAN and OAK???

Granted, there’s no Andrew Luck coming up in the next number of draft years, but it doesn’t change the fact that all three of those sorry teams need to draft a future starting QB.

  18. Don’t fire Allen or Tarver. Look at the guys they are working with. Tarver doesn’t have his 2 starting corners so his saftey came to play. Fire gregg knapp. The play calling is terrible and the zone blocking scheme hasn’t worked at all. Get rid of giordano, mitchell, kelly, seymour, and rolando. Start the defense all over

  19. I kind of like the idea of bringing Gruden back. I mean, look what he did for Gannon! Just imagine what he could turn Palmer into, a high percentage, pump fakin, ball controllin, TD machine! We got the pieces in place, mostly, just need some consistent blocking up front. Who cares how your defense plays when you put up 40+ points every week.

In fairness to Carson, he’s the most decent QB we’ve had in that decade ur talking about! (of course you’ll disagree)Everything is cyclical even in football and had the Jamarcus pick pan out, its the Raiders turn! AFC west has been up for grabs the last few years – the Chiefs and the Chargers are in a steep decline and Payton isnt exactly his old self. Chugging that hater-aid by the gallon is not healthy, Doug!

What did Gruden do for Gannon? He was already a proven starter in KC and was better than Elvis Grbac. Schottenheimer was just too blind to see it. Gruden can’t evaluate talent and is overrated.

  22. Gruden focused on the little details and that rubbed off on Gannon. I don’t remember Gannon breaking any records before he came to the Raiders. Gruden somehow got him to the next level. I don’t know if Carson has the brain, but i don’t question his heart anymore.
