Falcons’ Joe Hawley suspended four games for PED violation

Joe Hawley AP

Falcons backup offensive lineman Joe Hawley has been suspended four games for violating the league’s policy on performance enhancing substances.

The Falcons announced the suspension on the team’s official website.

Hawley, who has played in six games with no starts this year, will be eligible to return on Dec. 17, the day after the Falcons’ game against the Giants.

This is where the cynical start the Adderall countdown, in 3, . . . 2, . . . 1.

UPDATE: 5:16 p.m. ET: Hawley’s agent, Kevin Omell, has issued a statement, via the NFLPA. It reads, as follows:

“In September, Joe Hawley made a mistake by taking an Adderall pill. He did not file the paperwork to apply for an exemption for this medication, and now understands that the NFL/NFLPA drug policies have strict rules.

He is sincerely sorry to his teammates, coaches and Falcons fans for the consequences of this oversight. Joe will work diligently every day of this suspension to stay in top football shape and be ready to help the team continue the success they’ve achieved thus far this season. He has chosen to be immediately accountable for the situation which is why he will not exercise his appeal rights and will begin serving the suspension immediately.”

How about a four game suspension for taking the PED, then another two game suspension for lying about it and saying he took an Adderal pill one time.

I don’t believe adderall stays in your system for two months when you just take one pill lol

It must not have been working too well if he was a backup.

They need to change this. It’s pathetic that these players can hide behind the NFL’s pathetic policy hiding their failed drug test results.

This should be made public and they should increase testing, especially among starters. They def. have the money to test every single player repeatedly throughout the year.

The “Adderall excuse” is getting real old.

This is just too funny. Even agents and lawyers have to feel slimey when they spout this drivel.

About the 10th guy this year suspended for adderal. Absolutely no excuse.

There needs to be a rule that if you get busted and lie about the drug you took then the NFL will have the right to publicly announce what it really was.

    Oh yea. Adderall. Again.

Guys and girls who like to party and drink a lot, but like to keep themselves alert, and don’t want to blow their cash on coke. And they don’t pop it, they crush it down and snort it up.

He can pick up a few bucks by dying his beard and playing Santa at the mall for awhile.
