In the Green Bay game, Young lined up incorrectly on several plays (including when the Lions were in the red zone towards the end of the game). He’s considered to be a major factor in losing the game (and any hope of a playoff birth).

On the big play with penalty by Gosder Cherilus, Young lined up where Tony Scheffler was supposed to be. Riley Reiff shouted to Young that he was lined up in the wrong spot. Scheffler tried (twice) to get Young to move. Young waved Scheffler off twice. Stafford then yelled at Young, and that caused Cherilus to move early.

Young was definitely the reason for the shouting match between coaches Linehan and Jefferson.

Telling Young to stay home — he’s not welcome to participate in the nationally televised Thanksgiving Day game is a bigger deal than anyone outside of Detroit understands. That’s huge-huge-huge.

Schwartz specifically said this is not strike two for Young, but everything else Schwartz said made it sound like this is definitely is strike two.

Young’s next meeting with Schwartz is going to involve a lot more than Young going out behind the barn and fetching Schwartz a switch. Young’s in danger of losing his entire career.

The Lions have been on this “bad cop” routine for a while now, they have cut Aaron Berry for an off the field mistake and they have chastised players on the sidelines here and there, not to mention what we might not have seen in the background. They are trying to stay tough and aggressive but not in a positive and constructive way. They just are misaligned in how they treat the players and try to coach them up to get the most out of them.

And I’m not just talking about discipline scenarios, even guys not in the doghouse like Stafford can’t seem to get their head into the game and focus on the little things. They are not trained well to think and react logically and there’s too many things that aren’t being addressed and handled. Every game we have lost has primarily been to blame on off the field choices that our non-players are responsible for. It’s time for a new approach, culture, and attitude. Somebody has to demand that from the top and start working through the issues that hold us back and weigh us down.

Math lesson time. Most people here are fans of one of 32 NFL teams. Ergo, many of them hate the other 31 NFL teams. Maybe hate is too strong a word for all of them. But certainly the fans of the 3 teams in the Lions division hate the Lions. And the other 15 teams in the same conference are not Lion lovers either. Add it up and Lion Haters >> Lion Lovers

I think the biggest thing I’ve learned today is that Shawn Jefferson, the terrible Charger receiver from the 90′s, is now an NFL assistant coach. Who knew?

If only every reciever was terrible enough to avg. 15 yards/rec for 13 years…

He definitely had those issues at Boise State. He was suspended for off-field behavior and benched for on-field behavior. If he hadn’t been so fast and adept at locating the deep pass he would have been dismissed from the team.

How did Suh come into the conversation? He’s been quiet pretty much all season.

Do you know how Shwartz handles his team behind closed doors? Didn’t think so. He rarely puts ANYTHING out in the media good or bad. Just because it doesn’t get national headlines or he doesn’t parade it around doesn’t mean he doesn’t do anything.

Also, I almost fell over when I saw that Leshoure also started wearing the “Sr.” on his jersey name yesterday. I think Leshoure is a keeper, but he’d be wise to not follow along with the silly ideas of an outcast.

Some might call that a good move. But, reviewing a good post above about Titus being drafted in the same round, before Cobb, things could have been much different. The Leos could have Cobb, no problems, no need to reach for Broyles *and* could have used that pick on a solid CB.

Titus young did a lot of damage. Go Lions.

Kind of funny that he and Randall Cobb were drafted in the same round of the same year, and both had similar ratings – undersized “jack of all trade” WRs. Lions took Young before the Packers took Cobb. How has that worked out for both teams?

Well, after all, Cobb is a system receiver.

Of course, it’s a great system!

And Randall has shown himself to be a disciplined receiver learning under Jennings, Nelson, and of course, Driver!

And Edgar Benett has shown himself to be a fine receivers coach in Green Bay.

Some team will trade a draft pick for him (5-7th round pick) and that’s more valuable than a underachieving, hothead, penalty-ridden WR.

Lions need to focus their offseason on changing the culture of this team and drafting players that will make an immediate impact.

Corey Williams (not resign), Titus Young (trade/cut), Cliff Avril (leave via FA), Justin Durrant (Cut) are just a few players that will be gone next year.

Detroit is in their darkest hour! We need you!
