Cannot think of a worse D to have to go against as a back-up QB. Yeah, many people complain about the starting QB (who is out with a concussion)but this D just doesn’t give up a lot of points. Watch out for the all-pro LB’s. They can also run the ball well. ________ wins this game for sure.

Just like the Montana and Young Qb controversy…kind of…sort of…not really. I like Alex but I am curious about Kap. He will have his hands full with the Bears D. With all the Pick 6′s they’ve had, it could get ugly quick for him. Regardless, I have faith in my Niners and we definitely will win…or tie…or lose.

As a Ravens fans, both of these fan bases better gear up to put an asterick next to the W if they get it. Apparently it doesn’t matter who your team is missing — the only thing that matters in the court of public opinion is that your team beat a less than average back up QB. Nothing you can do about it.

Bank on punts, field position, field goals, which all break down to special teams. Chicago has the definite edge in that category. The four point line makes this an easy call, now that both starting qb’s have been ruled out.

Even if Kaepernick wins this game, there will not be a qb controversy and Alex will be the starter next week. Let’s face it, Kaep is raw. Sure, he might have a bigger arm, better legs, and more upside over the long haul than Alex, but Alex beats him severely in the intangibles. Alex can read a defense, Alex can make the right decision, and Alex throws an accurate ball. If Kaep plays well tonight, he will surely make a case for himself to be evaluated in the offseason, but it’s not going to happen in the middle of a season in which San Fran is in the thick of the playoff hunt, potentially as a high seed, and likely a Super Bowl contender. Anyone who has watched Kaep in minimal action this year knows he is not ready to be a week in and week out starter. He struggles to make the right reads. Last week he had a wide open touchdown to Kyle Williams on a blown coverage and he flat out didn’t see it. A few weeks ago he chucked the ball up to Randy moss in triple coverage and was fortunate that it was just batted down. He is also not exactly careful with the ball. These are all things to be expected from a 2nd year player with minimal opportunity, but they also speak to the fact that Alex is much further along in development than Colin.

I really hope Kaepernick is ready tonight. I want Alex to stay the starter, but if Kaepernick plans on trying to take over the top spot some day he will have to show something in this game. This is the biggest test you could possibly give this kid.

This is going to make for an interesting conversation tomorrow if Colin Kaepernick performs at a high level. He has a lot of potential, he’s a big, agile quarterback who can sling it. If he plays to his potential the 49ers are going to have a QB debate on their hands.

Do I agree with that? No, absolutely not. But, I believe the 49ers are looking for a quarterback of Kaepernick’s potential and he could really provide the spark that offense has been missing. Two polar opposite quarterbacks and those that understand football value what Alex Smith can do, those that like exciting football will be entrenched with Colin.

I don’t have any love for the 49ers but I don’t think any of their fans are calling for a change. They don’t need Tom Brady behind center with that defense and run game. Smith keeps his turnovers low and makes the big play when needed and continues to move the chains I don’t see what the problem is? Media and analysts were talking Flynn needs to start when Wilson wasn’t playing that bad but Seahawk fans could see the growth. These head coaches see these guys more than once a week, they know what they have and who should be starting for their teams.

Kap throws a nice deep ball. This is the perfect time to finally start using Moss the right way and take some shots deep.
That will open things up more for Gore, who will need to carry the ball 25 times tonight for the Niners to win.
Smith has never been a good deep passer, which limits the offense.

As a Seahawks fan, I have to grudgingly admit that Alex Smith has done a darn good job the last 2 seasons. I don’t want to see him hurt, but naturally I’m glad he’s not playing against the Bears. I want the Bears to win, so the Hawks can close the gap in the NFC West. But anybody who thinks Smith deserves to be the second string QB, well, all I can say is I want some of what they are smoking.

This is going to be a 6-3 kinda game, with lots and lots of running and turnovers. Unfortunately, as a Niners fan, I think the Bears are gonna take this one. I have little faith in Kap, especially against this Bears defense.

QB controversy?

Alex Smith is one of the best QB’s in the league this year. How could the 49ers winning this game create controversy?

Perhaps the media is hoping for some but as long as Alex Smith keeps putting up 250 yard 3 TD nights, it won’t matter.

BTW, Kappernack can run, that’s it. It’s painful watching this kid try and read a defense.

I don’t understand the hate for Alex Smith. The dude came into the league almost as a teenager and had to deal with a horrible coaching staff year-after-year until Harbaugh came into town last year.

He’s still young and he’s had some games this year that have been stellar. In the last minutes of the game, if you need a drive, he’s probably in the higher side of top-10 of quarterbacks I would want on the field.

He certainly gives his team WAY better chance to win week-in and week-out than Colin Kaepernick. The 49ers are not in rebuild mode, they are in win a Super Bowl mode. Maybe they look at making a change at quarterback during the off-season, but there is no freaking way they are going to yank Alex Smith for a rookie quarterback in the position they are in.

Speculating otherwise is just absurd. It’s a hail mary at generating headlines. Stupid if you ask me.
