Easy. It was clear that Subway, the super secret de facto equipment sponsor for the Steelers and their retro jerseys failed to adequately pad Sandwich's Super Bee Jersey with enough honey oat loaf around the ribs. Consequently, when gravity overcame Sandwich's TD run, the ribs were the most vulnerable place for which the impact with the ground would impact. Simple physics people.

My question is this: how did Lefty go from healthy (strong like bull!) - to tormented gimp with multiple upper torso injuries?

It seemed like Leftwich was doing just fine on his 31 yard TD run at the start of the game, and only evidenced some level of pain discomfort after inexplicably tumbling UNTOUCHED in the end zone. Who falls for no good reason? And who can't fall without blowtorching their shoulder and rib-cage?

Something doesn't make sense here.

I love it when the only solace a fan can find after a loss is being critical of the team that's now beat them three times in a row. If it makes you feel better to make predictions of an eventual Ravens' playoff loss, go for it. Since Pitt won't be there, I guess you'll need to find something to distract you until OTA's.

Nice 3-4 AFC conference record too. That's not going to help when fighting for a wild card either...

Batch is on the team because the Steelers take care of their own and he just filed for b.k. He had been a good coach.

The Leftwich broken ankle game in college was against Ben for conference title, not to many remember that.

D for Pitt was awesome last night.

Sign Johnson, he looked good in pre-season.

It's really time for the Steelers to look for a backup for Ben who isn't 1) older than dirt and 2) more fragile than blown glass. These two are unbelievable.

Leftwich-
2010 sprained MCL in final preseason game blowing expected 4 games starting in place of suspended Ben
2011 broken left arm after routine tackle in preseason. Tackled at ankles and simply fell to the ground- no normal person breaks their arm from such a harmless tackle/fall.
2012 broken ribs after clumsily tripping over his own feet and falling in end zone. Unreal. The elderly break ribs from a fall like that, not pro QB's.

Batch
2004 missed entire season after offseason knee surgery to repair torn cartilage
2008 broken collarbone in preseason game on a scramble, he didn't slide instead lowered his shoulder- bad move
2009 relieved Ben for 4 plays against KC, broke his wrist, no one knows exactly how it happened, surgery

I realize the Steelers o line still doesn't protect well, so it's imperative to find a QB who can actually take a few hits without falling apart...

Obviously Batch has been on the team a long time and started in place of Ben before. If he's not able to fill-in as a starter now, there is no reason for him to be on the team. He has to be a pretty expensive 3rd stringer. If they didn't have some confidence in his ability, I would think they would have let him go for some minimum wage rookie or one of the camp arms.

I don’t want to say Charlie Batch is old, but when he was the QB for the Lions, Pittsburgh was an NFC team.

Cute. Except Pittsburgh never was an NFC team. They were in the NFL when it had 16 teams at the merger and the AFL had 10 teams. Three had to switch and the Rooneys took one for the league and agreed to switch with the condition that their rivals Baltimore (which later fled to Indianapolis) and Cleveland (which later fled to Baltimore) would go to the AFC with them. At the merger the remaining 13 NFL teams formed the NFC while the 10 AFL teams plus the Browns, Colts, and Steelers formed the AFC.

Obvious he was joking, wow go get a sense of humor.

heath miller is designated the emergency backup. He should stay as backup.. easier to get another TE than try and find a QB this late to learn the system in case Batch gets hurt... or ...Bring back HINES WARD.. just in time for Ravens !! lol.. that would be a sell-out in itself !

Hows it feel Pittsburgh, all your hopes and dreams were smashed last night.

*************************************************************************

Smashed? What does that say for the Ravens? They *barely* eeked by a team with a busted up back-up QB. Aside from Kruger and Tucker, nobody on the Ravens did anything remotely memorable the entire game. Do you actually believe half of the garbage you say?

I completly agree with fmwarner if you have batch on the roster why not play him. If you wont let him play then why arebu spending money on him and wasteing a roster spot. All you need from Batch is to be a game manager intil Big Ben can get back. Rely on the run game and dont turn the ball over.
