If I were the Pats, I would concentrate much more on getting both Hernandez and Gronkowski healthy than worrying about playoff seeding. They can win that division without either of them and I’d rather have both of them reasonably healthy playing a road playoff game than all banged up playing at home.

If Hernandez really is ready to return now, great. But it’s a serious error if he’s going to be thrown out there just because Gronkowski got hurt. He’s been hobbled all year with that ankle and it’s looking like an injury that’s going to require some time to heal.

you have as much chance getting hurt on a PAT as you do standing on the sideline. Ok, maybe slightly more but not much. Does Belichick run up a score when he can? He sure does. Do people hate him for it? they sure do.

Looks like he’ll be ready for the playoffs for sure which is all that really matters. I wouldn’t count the Patriots out when it comes to getting the bye week, but even if they don’t I have faith that the Patriots are more than capable of going on the road and winning in the post-season.

First, the Patriots do not need to apologize for running up the score (coaches, front office, players or fans).

This is the NFL. If you can’t score against your opponent or stop them from scoring, don’t blame the opponent.

Second, the Bill Belichick/Robert Kraft-led Patriots play their starters deep into games and seasons. This is part of a coaching philosophy, so the team’s record or winning margin are not important factors.

There are many other parts of the Belichick philosophy. It has been a very successful approach.

The downside of the “all starters, all the time” strategy took place Sunday. Happens sometimes. It is a bigger deal than some Pats fans want to admit. But not as big a deal as Pats haters make it out to be.

However, it becomes a bigger deal if other starters suffer significant “garbage time” injuries.

Second, 21 points were scored by the Pats defense and special teams so it’s not like the Pats offense ran up the score. It was just an all-round beating of a young Colts team. No big deal.

What a lot of these commenters are trying to say is that Belechick deserves what he was handed. You are completely blowing out the opposition and instead of resting your star players, you run up the score and lose your best TE for 2-3 weeks. He deserves to suffer.

The Colts had the option of trying to play defense as their opponent ran the ball 8 times in their last 9 plays, with the lone pass play being one short pass to Welker on 3rd-and-7.

It’s also kinda funny that the whining about “running up the score” is usually about the Pats, and not other teams (like NO) who keep playing until the end.
As many times as this team has struggled to close out games on either side of the ball by either not running out the clock or scoring on O or allowing a bunch of 4th Q points on D, I say…”run it up ” boys. They have to get that go for the throat killer instinct developed. Last year they let a winless Colts team back into the game with Orlovsky playing.

The league is so weak this year that the Pats are unlikely to get help catching the Texans and Ravens from weak sisters like the Jaguars and Steelers. Look how those pathetic teams were unable to seal the deal against the clearly vulnerable Texans and Ravens. So I’d say keep Gronk out as long as the docs recommend.

first off – how can a team that has blown big 4th quarter leads over and over this season (to either lose or make it way closer than it had to be) be accused of running up the score … again. can you really blame them for wanting to play 60 minutes?

and Gronk was on the bench most of that last drive, but he’s part of the field-goal unit as a blocker – so he was on the field. unlucky.
