Jordan Shipley lands in Jacksonville

The Jaguars will have a new starting quarterback this weekend as Chad Henne takes over for Blaine Gabbert and Henne will have a new target to work with in practice this week as well.

Jacksonville announced Tuesday afternoon that wide receiver Jordan Shipley has signed with the team. Shipley was a third-round pick of the Bengals in 2010 and he caught 52 passes for 600 yards during his rookie season. Shipley tore up his knee early in the 2011 season, though, and the Bengals waived him during the summer. He signed with the Buccaneers in and played one game for them before getting cut once again.

The Jaguars are coming off their most prolific passing game of the year, with 378 passing yards between Henne and Gabbert driven mostly by Justin Blackmon’s first big day as a professional. There haven’t been many other standout games for members of the receiving corps, so Shipley might be able to find some playing time on offense.

In a blow to whoever makes the apostrophes that the Jaguars use for the names on the back of their uniforms, the Jaguars waived fullback Will Ta’ufo’ou to make room for Shipley.

Shipley’s good. I was surprsised to see the Bengals let him go.

If Shipley can’t make it in Jacksonville, he should find another profession.

You could sign Jerry Rice in his prime and it wouldn’t your job. You better be gone before the ticket invoices are mailed or I’m letting my 5 go.

Are the Jags really going to play better with Henne? Seriously. I’m asking a question. I need to know for my football pool.

Shipley isn’t going to break any big gains, but he was a good enough possession receiver for the Bagels. He’ll do the dirty work and get those drive-sustaining first downs.

Cecil Shorts is having a pretty big season as well. It’s just been a problem of getting the recievers the ball before the qb has been sacked.
