I think Ryan is a better coach now than he was when he went to 2 AFC title games. How can he not have learned from his mistakes by now? (Telling the world every week that Revis is the best defensive player in the NFL then wondering why a huge contract dispute comes along). I think a good GM will make the Jets competitive quickly.

If they make a change make a total change. If you have too many pre-conditions on key positions no one with any credibility will take the job! It all starts at the top. These locker room issues scare me long term too. Start over!

Rex took two mediocre teams to AFC title games, imagine if his GM hooked him up with a Clay Matthews type of pass rusher – or a young Talented QB like Andy Dalton – or an offensive tackle that doesn’t suck – or a good runningback – idk.

Fire GM – get a better one – give rex some talent – if he flubs again – fire him – Then get a better coach.

Take your favorite team.

Remove the # 1 CB, and #1 WR. What’s said team’s record? Also let’s factor in #1 CB is arguably #1 CB in the NFL, and #1 WR is Top 10ish. That’s a lot to overcome.

Now from watching hard knocks Tannebaum seems over his head in the GM role. Guy looked frazzled and run down in every scene. I think a shrewd draft and someone who can stand up to Rex and draft, best talent available O or D, will make a difference for them.

The effects of Ryan’s “let the inmates run the asylum” policies are cumulative. Haven’t you noticed that the antics have gotten worse and worse each season? It’s a down hill slope.

And imagine how bad it will be if they get rid of Tannenbaum and not Ryan. That will validate in the players eyes all of the nonsense of the last two years.

Imagine how out of control Rex will be if he believes he won a power struggle? Whoever replaces Tannenbaum will be absolutely powerless to reign him in.

Well, that’s an extremely easy decision. One person is a very good head coach, and the other one has assembled the worst roster this side of the Eagles. So you have someone who’s good at his job, and someone who’s not.

Unless it’s apparent that Ryan has been dabbling a little more than is known in personnel decisions (and even then, that just means you need a better talent evaluator in place to minimize that problem), the Jets would be making a huge mistake to push him out the door considering what he’s done with the Sanchize albatross hanging around his neck.

Of course, I expect the Jets to do the worst possible thing and continue toiling in mediocrity.

As a Jets fan all I have heard about this season/offseason is how terribly bad the Jets roster is. If that is the truth, and I believe it is, then the very fact that they are 4-6 with a remote chance still at the playoffs indicates the Ryan can, in fact, coach. Tanny has got to go. He signed Holmes to a mega-contract, drafted Gholston, dropped Woodhead, kept Hunter, alienated Revis, cheap-skated Woody into reitrement, cut Faneca….and there are many, many more examples…..Problem is talent, not coaching.

I’m a Rex Ryan guy, but to think they’re going to find a decent GM to take the job without being able to pick their own coach, and with the incumbent being perhaps the most volatile coach in sports, well that’s just ludicrous.

One could argue that the Bucs fall into this category with the loss of both Carl Nicks due to injury and Aqib Talib due to suspension/trade, and they are in FAR better shape than the Jay Ee Tee Es.

Talent is the problem? I can remember many times hearing Rex Ryan clamor over the talent level that this Jets team has. Constant praise about the superstars that grace the Jets locker room. Now they say its a talent issue? I bet if you look at Tannenbaum’s history throughout Free Agency and the draft, he has a pretty good eye for talent. Say what you want about Tannenbaum, Rex Ryan is the official fault of this team. He can’t figure out how to get the most from the talent he has on the team. Out goes Ryan!

The Ravens played their first 6 games without 2011 defensive MVP Suggs, and have been playing without top tier CB Lardarius Webb and future HOF Ray Lewis for several games now and still sit at 8-2.

Also, your WR is only as good as his QB, or lack thereof in this case, and it’s not like they are losing every game by 1-3 pts, in which case maybe he makes a 1-2 W difference.

Nothing at all. That’s Rex and Tony’s fault, The Jets were a mess last year, and a mess this year, same 2 people still there, so maybe they should both go.

In the Jet’s position, why not take the safe route and fire both? Can anyone really argue they’d be losing a valuable GM or coach?

If you want a real GM in there he’s going to want to have a coach in place he wants to work with. Even if you think that Ryan is a good coach that doesn’t mean having him forced upon a new GM won’t limit your options.

What was the expectation this year? Rex claims this could have been the best roster he’s ever had. The rest of us looked at it with eyebrows raised to the heavens in shock. I figured them to be a 6 or 7 win team even without the injuries. They’ve been fortunate to win two of the four games they’ve won. They’re right on track for where I’ve had them. Holmes wouldn’t have been good for more than a win, maybe two max, on a last minute play or something. The defense really hasn’t missed Revis, since he’s no Tillman where he takes back INTs or fumbles for scores, so seriously, they were slated to be a 6-7 win team by most objective viewers, and that’s what they will be.

However, the rumbling around the city from what I’ve heard all along is that Rex has more pull with personnel moves, so with Glat coming in, Mr. T is probably the odd man out. Woody loves Rex, there’s no way he’s going anywhere until after next season.

Jets should gut the whole thing and start over. Look at the roster. It’s in really bad shape. Both Tannenbaum and Ryan have misled Jets fans long enough.

I like Ryan and think he’s a good defensive coach (great one.) However, he’s lacking in the leadership department, and the locker room and off field foibles of the last couple years bear that out. Naming Santonio Holmes captain of anything should be enough to get fired.

Tannenbaum is an absolute train wreck and he is to blame for giving Rex Ryan that garbage of a roster.

Not only does he suck at evaluating talent, he also clearly couldn’t manage the finances of a mom and pop dry cleaning store.

Tannenbaum is to GM what Rich Kotite was to coaching.

If any of you don’t think that Ryan has about 80-90% say on who is on the roster, who gets drafted and who gets signed your kidding yourselves. Tannenbaum is not a personel guy…he was the cap guy before he bacame GM. They are both at fault and both should be fired. The problem with the NFL right now is the gap guys who become GM’s think they know scouting…they don’t…it takes years of experience to become a good scout and decision maker.
