Leodis McKelvin and Dan Bailey did very different things to help the Bills and Cowboys win last week, but they both got rewarded with special teams player of the week honors.
Bailey got the nod for making three field goals and two extra points in Dallas’ 23-20 overtime win against the Browns. Bailey tied the game with a field goal with two seconds remaining and then won it about nine minutes into the extra session with another kick. It’s the second time Bailey has taken home the weekly honors and the second straight week that a member of the Cowboys took them home. Punt returner Dwayne Harris was honored after returning a kick for a touchdown in Week 10.
That’s the same reason why McKelvin was this week’s AFC choice. McKelvin returned a kick 79 yards for Buffalo’s only touchdown in a 19-14 win against the Dolphins. It’s McKelvin’s second punt return touchdown of the year, although his 88-yard score in Week Two wasn’t enough to get him the prize he won for his Week 11 touchdown.
Two other AFC players — Julian Edelman of the Patriots and Jacoby Jones of the Ravens — also returned punts for touchdowns last week, but they weren’t able to take home the prize as well.
