Rams wide receiver Danny Amendola made a quicker than expected return from a collarbone injury earlier this year and St. Louis may need him to make another turbocharged recovery this week.

Amendola didn’t practice on Wednesday and he was wearing a walking boot to protect the heel/ankle injury he picked up against the Jets. Amendola left the game as a result of the injury in the first half of last Sunday’s loss, but he returned to the game after a brief absence. It seemed to be bothering him over the course of the afternoon, though, and there’s clearly some residual issues that Amendola has to overcome.

Coach Jeff Fisher said, via the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, that the team would see how Amendola feels on Thursday. Amendola missed three games as a result of the collarbone injury and missed 15 games with an elbow injury last season. Amendola has been a productive player for the Rams, but his injury issues serve to make it clear that the Rams need to upgrade the overall quality of their receiving corps. Not to replace Amendola, but to make them less reliant on him when it comes to finding success through the air.

Running back Steven Jackson also missed practice on Wednesday for the Rams, who play the Cardinals this weekend. Jackson was listed with a foot injury, but Fisher said it was a rest day for the veteran back.
