Jets making a mess of Thanksgiving nightcap

Beating the Patriots was going to take something close to a flawless game from the Jets.

They haven’t gotten it. Four first half turnovers have become 28 Patriots points and New England leads 28-0 with about eight minutes to play in the first half at the Meadowlands. The last three Jets turnovers came in quick succession, as did the touchdowns that followed. On a fourth-and-one in New England territory in the second quarter, Shonn Greene ran into the line, got stuffed and ultimately stripped as he reached for the first down. Safety Steve Gregory recovered the fumble and the Patriots scored on an 83-yard touchown catch-and-run by Shane Vereen on the next play.

The Jets turned the ball over three plays after that when Mark Sanchez tried to run on what looked like a busted play. He ran directly into the ample backside of right guard Brandon Moore, fumbled and Gregory returned it 32 yards for a score. Joe McKnight would fumble on the ensuing kickoff, Julian Edelman recovered and extended the lead to 28 when he strolled into the end zone. That was three touchdowns in 52 seconds and the game is pretty close to getting out of hand.

Sanchez got the fun started with an interception near the end of the first quarter. Gregory, who has been very busy, picked off a pass that could have been intended for two different receivers and came close to neither. The Pats wound up scoring six seconds into the second quarter on a three-yard pass to Wes Welker.

The good news for the Jets is that we’ve been taught twice today that big leads can disappear quickly. The bad news is that they look totally overmatched thus far.

As bad as it can be as a Lions fan at times, I’m just thankful I don’t have to root for the Jets.

    What a freaking debacle.

  7. durant0s says: Nov 22, 2012 9:36 PM

That was probably the funniest 52 seconds I’ve ever witnessed in the NFL.

There is only one person that can make the rest of this game watchable.

Isn’t technology grand? The Jets look awful and boring from any angle. Gee “thanks” a lot!

Good thing the itis has knocked out about half the population for the next few hours.

  12. norcal031 says: Nov 22, 2012 9:38 PM

That Sanchez fumble was the funniest play I have ever seen. Half the crowd is chanting Tebow and the other half is booing the Tebow chant.

I’m thankful I have alcohol to watch Jets games.

Pats are getting the breaks (and causing them) and the Jets seem completely outclassed. The only thing worth watching at this point is the potential implosion…and there is another long TD as I am typing this (35-0). They should iso a camera on Rex because he is going to lose it. The post game presser should be entertaining.

So is Mallet gonna get in before halftime?

A team coached by Rex Ryan with Mark Sanchez behind center & Shonn Greene the running back is a mess ……… period.

Can NBC switch to another game at halftime?

  21. bills4 says: Nov 22, 2012 9:49 PM

I would assume the NFL wont be scheduling the jets to play anymore where anyone outside of New York might have to see them. How they beat the Bills is beyond me.

Best thing about this game was Woody Johnson’s wife in the Thanksgiving greeting.

  37. rixofct says: Nov 22, 2012 10:29 PM

Hey Woody, maybe now you’ll give Tebow a shot? Really, what have you got to lose, LOL….

How many more teams will you need a spanking from before you clean house and buy/trade/draft yourself a real pro football team?!

  38. boyshole25 says: Nov 22, 2012 10:33 PM

Bart Scott was overheard saying can’t wait…. Til this game ends!

  39. johnnyb216 says: Nov 22, 2012 10:47 PM

What a huge shock. I expected a lot more from this team. The patriots are a horrible team and have been bottom dwellers for years. Rex Ryan is one of the best coaches in all of sports.

  40. richwizl says: Nov 22, 2012 11:00 PM

The Patriots are getting better and better and that’s bad news for the rest of the AFC.

  41. deathonwings410 says: Nov 22, 2012 11:17 PM

I wonder if the Pats’ll get to 60?

  42. lks311 says: Nov 22, 2012 11:32 PM

So much for home field advantage on a short week. All three home teams lose.

  43. ossiningwhatup says: Nov 22, 2012 11:45 PM

I never leave games early no matter how bad it gets but tonight I could not handle it. Sometimes it’s really embarrassing and hurts to be a jet fan.

  44. joetoronto says: Nov 23, 2012 3:52 AM

I found that 52 seconds sad, completely and totally sad, what a mess.

Remember Jet fans telling us all how great Rex is?

Gosh, I remember Rex telling us how great HE is.

Every April, jets and their fans…ALWAYS win the Super Bowl…ALWAYS talk their trash. But, when it comes time to back it up on the field…Well, has been 44 years now since they could do that.

    happy 44th anniversary jet fans.
