APThere was a surprise change to the Steelers practice report on Friday.
Safety Troy Polamalu, who has not been on the field since aggravating a calf injury in Week Four, took part in practice in a limited fashion. Polamalu has only played in five quarters this season, but Friday’s development suggests he’ll be able to add to that total before the end of the regular season. It’s unlikely that he’ll be adding to them against the Browns this weekend as Polamalu is listed as doubtful for the game, but that didn’t stop his teammates from feeling good about the change in status.
“It was a Thanksgiving-Christmas gift to see him out there,” safety Will Allen said, via the Associated Press.
Wide receiver Antonio Brown was also a limited participant on Friday and earned a questionable designation for this week’s game. Brown has missed the last two games with a sprained ankle, but he was able to practice a little bit every day this week so he might be able to get back on the field. Jerricho Cotchery has already been ruled out and Plaxico Burress could start his second stint with the team.
Encouraging news for two key Steelers, although we’ll have to wait until closer to kickoff before we know if it translates to the field.

I asked last night during game but got no response. Had Troy missed more games than he has played in the NFL and will he be remembered for cheesy hair / shampoo commercials or his game? I think the commercials.
Shame to see this guy go the way of Bob Sanders, but safety is a tough position on the body. He still has great hair though.
Steelers D has played better without him over reading for a couple of years now. He spends too much time out of position and guessing wrong.
He looked fat and out of shape last time he was on tv. Stick to shampoo commercials troy, steelers wont win with you anyway
Like to see Plaxico get some thrown his way. I think he still has it.
I’m a Steelers fan, but maybe it’s better if he takes this year off and recovers. Unfortunately, this doesn’t appear to be our year for the 7th ring, barring a miracle.
Can someone please elaborate on his ” calf ” injury. This is one of the two best safeties in the game and the only thing being said is it’s a “calf” injury. Like what in particular is wrong with it.
I have been wondering the same thing. We could def use him next week in the rematch against the Ravens. Troy seems to play well against them. Watching him edge up to the line and watching Flacco fall apart is classic.
I hope polumalu plays against the ravens so I can watch him limp off the field in person.
