Last month, Eagles coach Andy Reid fired defensive coordinator Juan Castillo. Now, Reid is trying to get Castillo hired.

To be a head coach.

Reid’s remarks specifically came in the context of an opening at UTEP, but Reid was sufficiently broad in his remarks to allow them to apply to any head-coaching job, at any level of the sport.

He would do a great job. He would be the mayor of El Paso,” Reid said of Castillo, via Tim McManus of PhillyMag.com.

“He would do a phenomenal job. I was hoping for him because I think he’d be a good head coach. He had a chance at that the last time [the UTEP job was open]. He and I actually went down and worked out a couple players there once, so he knows the area. He’d be great.”

He wasn’t great as a defensive coordinator. Then again, some Eagles fans already have grown nostalgic for the performance of the defense under Castillo.
