I agree with 72Fish; didn’t care no won, but wanted to see a fair game. The Refs let SF maul Saints receivers and even called offensive PI on NO receiver after he had been pushed around. Officiating like that makes you wonder about this league; terrible way to decide what should have been a great game between two matched teams.

The refs gave the game to Niners…three really bad calls that could have changed the game. Not a huge Saints fan but like to see a fair game. So much for the full time refs being better than the replacements…

Look, I wanted Alex to succeed, but Kaep is in now. If you just look at the box score this was no better than a Smith performance. However, if you watched the game you would see a QB who was able to complete some tough 3rd down throws and evade the rush. Kaep passed another test, he still has work to do, but he can make some plays Alex can’t.

There is only one small point which bothers me: A. Smith was a 1/1 pick and everybody was expecting big things from him. There were several occasions in the recent years when the 9er fans would just get rid of him. Now, under Harbough he looked legit (after 6 years of major disappointment) and suddenly you feel sorry for him being replaced? He looks good because of the defense and the system, but with a good D and system even Dilfer was a SB winner!

Although Kaepernick is 19 where Smith is just one shy of 20.

Saints fan here: 49ers are a better team than the Saints and in my opinion they have the most talent in the NFC.
They played harder and Kaepernick looks for real.

That kick move by Bunkley was just stoopid and I hope he does get fined. That was just dumb.
Just don’t give me this crap about the Saints being one of the dirtiest teams in the league they’re one of the lowest penalized teams for personal fouls in the league.
Don’t believe the bounty B.S. you’ll lose all credibility.

One O line is considered solid & get 5 holding calls despite zero sacks. The other is a pathwork, giving up numerous sacks & gets no holding calls.

49er fans are so arrogant and delusional…they were talking like this kaepernick guy is so great and I didn’t see any evidence of greatness against the worst defense in football(Saints)….the cart-offs was active in this game for both teams…very physical game…worst defense in football held kaepernick to 17pts and under 400yds of total offense, nothing great about that performance…alex smith should return as starter…..take away Brees boneheaded 2 pick 6s and terrible officiating, 9ers should’ve lost…oh well, a win is a win…saints gotta forget this loss and get ready for the hated falcons thur.nite

Wow, how insightful. Where did you get all of your information, an NFL press release? There is no evidence whatsoever to support the league’s charges beyond the word of one disgruntled ex-employee that the Saints did anything like what you are talking about. Please come back and talk to us some more when Paul Tagliabue and/or a federal court rule that the league has no case.

Smith is a game manager, thats his ceiling, he’ll never be anything more than that. He lacks deep ball accuracy and he can’t make all the throws kap can its that simple. The niners will never have a real downfield passing attack with alex under center. Alex also has no ability to play from behind. This team goes down 13 points to anyone and its a done deal. I dunno if kap has that comeback ability but i’m ready to find out

Wonder how much money Vilma got for carting off Kyle Williams and Kendall Hunter on the same play. Bet Sedrick Ellis got a bunch of big high-fives on the sideline for kicking a Niners player while he was on the ground.

Great team win in a clearly hostile environment. Kaep wasn’t perfect, but played very well and continued to flash in moments that showed just how high his ceiling can be. Anyone who thinks the Niners got help from the officials is delusional… for every missed call there were 5 phantom calls against them and 1-2 missed calls against the Saints as well. Niners beat the Saints AND the refs today.

d long situations.. which smith isn’t very good on.. poised in the face of blitzes.. and got away from at least 5 sacks smith would have been sacked on.. can’t teach that.. I love Alex and what he’s done for us.. but I’m all in with kaep! CK7 is the future

Obviously you didn’t see the non-call when Randy Moss THREW A GUY DOWN TO THE GROUND instead of giving up an interception. Maybe you were watching a different game.

The pick 6 before the half broke the Saints back and the 49ers defense is outstanding. My only problem was the missed calls on the refs part. There were a couple of blatant interference calls that weren’t made. Hats off to the 49ers and Bunkley needs to sit a game. There are better parts of Suh he should try to emulate. Uncalled for that late in the game. The way the NFC is week to week the Saints still have a chance but with their schedule they may end up just playing spoiler.

Umm yeah you may want to look at that play from the back line angle… There was NOBODY to beat on the return if he picked it off. It was a brilliant play by Moss on a horrible throw. just like the one Crabtree stretched out the other way to grab in which the defender then missed him because he already thought he was taking it to the house. Kap made some big plays but got bailed out several times so let’s stop acting like he is the messiah all the sudden.

I’m not going to lie. I was thrilled watching the 49ers clobber the Saints at the Superdome. I was especially happy to see Drew Brees get manhandled by the 49ers defense (no explanation needed). And Jonathan Vilma did a nice job vilifying himself by twisting Kendall Hunter’s ankle at the end of a play. So much for playing the victim card here. Not even Sean Payton would have saved the Saints today. Job well done, 49ers.

I am so confused with you people. The big complaint about smith is that he didn’t win game, the D did. Kap had a decent game. He’s good. But I would MUCH rather have Smith under center.
So you Kap lovers and Smith haters, just go look at the stats. Look at this game’s stats, then go look at Smith’s stats. Hello? Is anyone with a brain reading this?
The 9′ers were not broken, in fact just the opposite. And, Smith was proving to everyone just how good he is. So we stick Kap in instead, he has a decent game and everyone’s high on it? Even though he ran the offense like Smith would (just not quite as good). Get a clue people. This is the downfall of the 9′ers this season. I love my team, but I’m disgusted with the coaching decisions. You don’t pull the guy that got you where you want to be so you can start your little cub. Smith is the man who got us here. Let him finish the season, and then send him packing, but don’t do it this way. I’ve lost all respect for the coach on this one. This is NOT how a team is run.
So in the end, it was our D that once again won it for us DESPITE the errors on Kap’s end. Though he did play a good game, it was filled with little flaws that Smith does not have. But I’m afraid that the Smith days are over, going back now would mean our coach got a brain. But, he would never admit he was wrong, even when logic dictates it.

Jets should trade for Alex Smith. they run a conservative offense anyway so its not like theyd be asking him to wing it downfield. Definitely better than Sanchez/Tebow and the 49ers need to stick with Kaepernick he looks really impressive

Honestly, I think people are blowing the Kaepernick/Smith comparisons out of proportion.

Kaepernick can do things Smith can’t and so he provides big play opportunities, but he also relies a lot of his athleticism and creates opportunities for the other team. For the criticism of Smith’s conservative approach (or executing the plays exactly as he’s coached), he doesn’t provide many opportunities for the opposing defenses and does a good job of keeping his team in good field position.

Although Smith doesn’t create as many big plays, he is capable of threading the needle when he needs to. The offense, with him under center, put up 36 on these guys in the playoffs. Sure, they were on the road today, but Kaepernick led the offense to 17 points against this Saints D that isn’t as good as last year’s. My point isn’t that either guy is better, but that Kaepernick doesn’t drastically improve the offense compared to Smith.

I think the team has just as good of a chance with either player, so why not show some loyalty to the guy who’s stuck through the franchise’s darkest days and who reached into his own wallet to rent a stadium so he could install Harbaugh’s offense during last year’s lockout?

Ted Ginn muffing the punt was unacceptable. With a guy that close to you call for a fair catch and concentrate on the ball. I’m hoping Hunter and Williams are OK. The image of William’s injury looks just like many other guys this season who’ve blown out their ACLs, so I’ll keep my fingers crossed for him. Thankfully we’re stocked at WR and RB this year.
