On Thursday night, Peter King reported that the rule that wipes out an automatic review if the coach throws the red challenge flag will most likely disappear after the season.
On Friday, NFL executive V.P. of football operations Ray Anderson said on The Dan Patrick Show that the change could be made during the season.
Today, Albert Breer of NFL Network reports that the gears could start churning this week.
Per Breer, the Competition Committee could convene a conference call in the coming days to discuss changing the rule.
The sooner the better. While, as Anderson said Friday, competitive concerns could give the Competition Committee pause when it comes to altering rules during a season, it’s a bad rule and it needs to go.
That said, any coach who would be dumb enough to throw the red flag when he shouldn’t over the balance of the season should be fired on the spot. For cause.
