He’s not a failure if this team starts a major upswing as these players in their first 3 years get more experience. He probably never did enough though. He didn’t coach, and he made great strides to not be the face of the franchise. There still time for this to not be considered a failure though.

Pete Carroll took over the Seahawks at the same time that Holmgren took control of the Browns. The Seahawks almost hired Holmgren at that time. I don’t think anyone would exchange the Seahawk roster for the Browns roster at this time.

PC is not as good a play caller as Holmgren but he has put together a first class organization.

I guess that’s what the Browns fans could say for the last 14 seasons! Cleveland has a decent defense know, and played with a rookie QB, RB, RT, LB, 2 DL, and S! Stop whining, the Steelers are getting old, and lets not forget, it took the Steelers up until about three years ago to match the head to head wins in the rivalry! I swear some fans have football amnesia!

Browns fans had the same scornful comments when Belichick left – just saying, look at your roster now compared to when Holmgren arrived.
You’ve got guys that could be mistaken for a QB/WR/HB/Oline/Defense….
That’s better than the Derek Anderson/Brady Quinn years….

It might be a bit harsh to say he failed; he was hired with the idea that he had five years to build a winning team, and now he’s out after two and a half years. Obviously he failed to build a winning team in two and a half years; it’s an open question as to whether he would have built a winner if given the full five years to work on it. Personally, I’m guessing he would have failed, since (a) the team has shown little to no progress so far, and (b) the team still doesn’t have a playoff-quality QB. But the reality is that we’ll never know what would have happened if he’d been allowed to complete his five-year plan.

The man got paid more then 30 million and lived on the west coast. It was one of the biggest heist’s in the history of professional sports. 30 million for a part time job! He showed in Seattle he didn’t know how to put a team together and then did it again in CLeveland. It just goes to prove that just because a man is top coach it doesn’t mean he can be a top GM. The problem is many coaches feel they can coach and handle the GM job at the same time and most can’t.

I’m not sure why anyone thought Holmgren could build a roster. Yeah, the Seahawks made the Super Bowl, but a lot of his guys were already gone and he was just the coach.

Yea, Holmgren just inherited a disaster area franchise and has systematically added talent to it each year. He clearly is a failure because he couldn’t get them to the playoffs when it was the worst roster in football when he and Heckert took it over.

Why would anyone want o coach the Cowboys?

I can see a newcomer willing to take it on just to get his ‘in’ but any coach with any experience will not want to have to put up with Jerry Jones’ incompetence as a GM and constant meddling unless he is on such a serious downslide he has no alternative. A top rate coach simply won’t even entertain a discussion about doing it.

Sorry, i know he had success in Greenbay and a little success in Seattle with that loss in the SB. But man since then this guy as been OVER RATED. To think he can just assume he’ll walk on the field and be a head coach again in the NFL is laughable. Jones needs to skip this clown.
