The Broncos got a strong effort from Knowshon Moreno in their first game since losing Willis McGahee to a knee injury, but they still added another body at the position on Wednesday.

Former Chargers running back Jacob Hester is headed to Denver. The Broncos announced the news of his arrival on Monday as well as the addition of running back Jeremiah Johnson to the practice squad. Hester and Steve Slaton both worked out for the Broncos last week.

Hester was cut by the Chargers at the end of August, bringing his four-year run in San Diego to an end. Hester, originally a third-round pick in 2008, ran for 319 yards on 95 carries and caught 55 passes during his time in San Diego. He also played a key role on San Diego’s special teams units during his time with the Chargers.

Moreno had 111 total yards on 24 touches for the Broncos on Sunday, a pretty impressive effort given the fact that he hadn’t played in a game since the second week of the regular season. Ronnie Hillman had three carries and Lance Ball had zero as Denver turned the position over to Moreno in full. Hester’s arrival probably won’t change that all that much, although he does give Denver another option to use as they try to keep on winning without McGahee in the lineup.
