APThe 9-2 Ravens don’t really have the aura of a 9-2 team. They could move in that direction with the return of the man who wears No. 52.
Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports reports, citing “more than a half dozen” sources, that Lewis could come back from a torn triceps by Week 15, when the Ravens host the Broncos.
“At the end of the day, you’re gonna see Ray Lewis again,” linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo told Silver. “For the greatest player in Ravens history to be able to return from this injury and come on this championship run with us? When he was said to be down and out? Man, that’s critical mass. When he comes through that tunnel, that’s gonna be the earthquake and the tsunami.”
Lewis wouldn’t give a timetable for his return. “You’ve got eyes — what do you expect to happen?” Lewis said. “I’m here to support my team.”
The specific date could depend on the team’s playoff positioning.
“He might not be back until we really need him,” Ayanbadejo said. “Pittsburgh losing probably gives us more time.”
Both G.M. Ozzie Newsome and coach John Harbaugh agreed that Lewis could be back sooner than expected.
Lewis was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday, October 17. He can return to practice on November 28, and he can return to game action in Week 15 at the earliest.
But Week 15 was never regarded as a serious possibility after the injury occurred. Now, it should be.
