DeSean Jackson out for season with fractured ribs

As the Eagles’ season goes from bad to worse, they’ve now lost one of their top offensive playmakers.

DeSean Jackson, the wide receiver who guaranteed a Super Bowl when he signed a new five-year contract in March, will miss the rest of this season with fractured ribs, coach Andy Reid announced today. Jackson leads the team with 45 catches for 700 yards, so his loss will be yet another blow to an offense that continues to struggle.

Reid said Jackson’s injury will take about six weeks to heal and shouldn’t affect him during the offseason. (Reid, of course, will have no role in anything Jackson does during the offseason, as Reid is sure to be fired when this season ends.)

Reid also confirmed that left tackle Jason Peters will not play this year, that Peters’ replacement at left tackle King Dunlap will at the very least miss some practice with an MCL sprain, that running back LeSean McCoy is still in Phase 1 of the NFL’s post-concussion protocol and that quarterback Michael Vick has still not been cleared from his own concussion. Injuries have devastated the Eagles’ offense, but Reid declined to blame injuries for his team being 3-8.

“Injuries are not an excuse for our record. The next guy plays. There are no excuses,” Reid said. “Hopefully you have the character on the team where guys will fight to the end. You saw that last night. We’re just not getting it done.”

The Eagles are not getting it done, and with Jackson done, it’s one more sign that Philadelphia may fail to win another game before the season is done.

Is it possible to take a knee for the rest of the year?

  2. bigjdve says: Nov 27, 2012 12:27 PM

If Reid is definitely going to be fired, then why not just do it now?

  3. drmonkeyarmy says: Nov 27, 2012 12:28 PM

Best thing for them would be to not win another game. Might as well sit McCoy the rest of the season too. Save some wear and tear.

    Any relation to Michael Jackson?

  5. cardiovascularendurance says: Nov 27, 2012 12:28 PM

PLEASE cut Dunlap now! Replace him with anyone. Tra Thomas, Runyan, Vince Papale… ANYONE!!!!

Too bad for DeSean, feel better soon. Time to shoot for the #1 pick. Maybe that’s been AR’s plan all year? LOL.

He must be happy… No more losing. Just gets to sit back and watch.

Not a huge loss here. Just another hugely overpaid, mediocre-at-best clown on a team full of them. If any team needs a house cleaning its this one.

  9. autoriot says: Nov 27, 2012 12:38 PM

Man, I am not sure it could get any worse than it is right now.

Cheers to your Philadelphia Eagles, the new doormat of the NFC East… Skins coming up!!

The only way I forgive Jeff L. for not firing Andy is f the team DOES lose the rest of their games. If some how they put together a “lets do this for Andy” streak, I will be sorely upset.

Root for the Jags and Chiefs to win some games. The last time we picked second in the draft we got a franchise QB. Say what you want about Reid but he refused to listen to the media, fans and politicians and passed on the head case running back, and also got the best QB of the group. I hope Howie gets it as right this time.

This could not happen to a better fanbase.

I remember telling my buddy from Frankford that the Eagles will never win a Super Bowl in the Andy Reid era…in 2004. I also told him that the Redskins would win their fourth before the Eagles win their first. I am feeling much better about that last one right about now.

Desean can now blow his money and focus on his rap career adventure…I’m quite sure he’s happy to be injured and out for the season, especially how the eagles have played losing 7 games in a row…just sad the way those players just caved in for the season with no heart or pride.

Worst year ever for Andy Reid… The guy’s life is such a mess, Football is the last thing he needs now or in the near future.

Fractured ribs are the outcome of 5″10 180 going against Greg Hardy 6’4 290.

    Dream Team.

  20. bigbluenationdb says: Nov 27, 2012 1:33 PM

Jackson is a bum. The Eagles would be better to move him. Outside the one punt return against the Giants a few years ago the guy has done nothing. He can only run one route and cant do anything inside the hashes.

  21. rugdaniels says: Nov 27, 2012 1:34 PM

Jackson’s a punk. The guy avoids catching passes if there’s a chance he’s going to get hit, yet doesn’t hesitate to run his mouth and show up the defensive players if he makes a catch. Jackson always wants the attention on him, this time the Panthers obliged him. Good.

Not a significant loss. Overpaid, overegoed, overrated.

I love it that the Brownies are closer to a SB than the Dream Team / Team of Destiny / Dynasty in the making Philadelphia Eagles!!

This couldn’t happen to a better fan base? Really? The eagles have the only real fan base in ALL of sports. Get out of here with your ridiculous comments. You are welcome the rest of the NFC east. Take advantage of the eagles blow this year because that is the only chance you have to actually win some extra games

  26. n0hopeleft says: Nov 27, 2012 2:08 PM

    Money well spent in Philly.

This guy is the softest in the league.

  27. burgundyandgold says: Nov 27, 2012 2:32 PM

We will see flipadelphia how many of you drunken brethren will show up at games next season for a 2-14 squad. Skins fans have sucked it up for 20 years of losing and still show up and are proud. You don’t know what you are talking about but that is to be expected for someone who has likely only been outside of Philadelphia or South Jersey in a prison bus.

Take away their lucky wins, including the Browns, Ravens and especially the Giants game and they’d be 0-11!

  29. NakedCowboy! says: Nov 27, 2012 2:35 PM

atta boy! now go get that no. 1 pick…

  30. rcali says: Nov 27, 2012 2:43 PM

Funny, the report during the game was that he had a “bruised sternum.” I think they better get that x-ray machine fixed in Philly.

    Couldn’t happen to a nicer jerk…

  32. klink6224 says: Nov 27, 2012 3:14 PM

And now we can all wave goodbye to Babin!

Guess he won’t have to worry about not performing cuz the fans are booing anymore

  33. cooklynn17 says: Nov 27, 2012 3:37 PM

    What a Wimp…

  34. justintuckrule says: Nov 27, 2012 3:48 PM

I hope they draft Barkley and he sucks out loud like Leinart. That would be the icing on the cake.

  35. cfh666 says: Nov 27, 2012 5:18 PM

We don’t need Flipadelphia’s permission to take advantage of the helpless Shegles. This could not be happening to a better franchise, they just can not lose enough for me. The “fan base” tends to know very little about football and deserve this for cheering for dog killers and career ending injuries. I thank God every day for letting them be losers!!

  36. jintzforever says: Nov 27, 2012 9:23 PM

That’s too bad Mr. alligator arms gets broken ribs you suck DeSean Jackson. The ultimate punk.

  37. numba1recx19 says: Nov 27, 2012 9:33 PM

What if….. Seesaw Jackson goes to Miami for picks and Matt Moore… Eagles need a qb, phins need a deep rec.

  38. wcdunkenfield says: Nov 27, 2012 9:52 PM

Funny thing about this season from the perspective of being an Eagles fan. With all our problems, I can understand and appreciate the jabs from the Giant and Cowboy fans. Their teams have a history of great teams and great football. That other NFC East team lacks their gravitas — in the boardroom, on the field, and especially in the stands.

I’m sure whoever you root for is criminal free. if its Dallas you just cheer coke smoking, mom smacking, child molesters

count me as a “fan” who couldn’t root for Vick and was at the “Irvin” game and the cheer didn’t last long once he remained down. They started up again when Deion started doing a rain dance around him. That was funny.
