Falcons short-handed in secondary in short week

Andre Roberts, Asante Samuel AP

Regardless last week’s loss, their 5-6 record or the short week, this is not the time to be short-handed against the Saints.

But that’s the situation the Falcons could be in, based on Tuesday’s practice.

Starting cornerbacks Asante Samuel (shoulder) and Dunta Robinson (illness) did not practice, in advance of Thursday night’s game at the Georgia Dome.

While Robert McClain has played sufficiently well as their third since Brent Grimes went on IR, pushing too deep in the secondary gets you down to Dominique Franks and Christopher Owens.

That’s a tough spot to be in against the one team the Falcons lost to this season.

    Great, Grand, WONDERFUL!

I’d rather be 10-6 with two wins over The Saints than 14-2 with 2 losses to The Saints.

If the Saints could keep the Falcons in 4th and 1 all season, the Falcons would be 0-16.

Chris Owens and Dominique Franks are practice squad material only. Maybe we can get Chris Hope to try his hand at CB.

That said, both Dunta and Asante will be on the field. Maybe jacked up on muscle relaxers, but on the field nonetheless.

I gotta go with the Falcons in this one. A beat down of the Saints makes my Bucs look better. Just keep Brees on his back and Matt Ryan can do the rest.

@bucforever…wishful thinking, but the falcons will not beat down the Saints…the games are usually close and the Saints own the falcons right now winning 3 in a row against them and 11 out of last 13 times…falcons don’t have the d-line to pressure Brees, it’s gonna be a long nite for falcons secondary along with Asante’s bad shoulder.

I’ll take a retired Domonique Foxworth and Big Play Ray Buchanan right about now. Though I hear Ray Ray would like to be paid cash under the table nowadays.
